Reflective Essay: Executive High School Internship Program

Receiving an invitation to apply to the highly acclaimed Executive High School Internship Program was the beginning to an invaluable learning opportunity, allowing me to expand my skill set beyond my fellow high school students, and gain a bold competitive advantage. I was applying for a highly selective internship with the Colorado School of Mines, where I would be afforded many opportunities that most Undergraduate students are not privy to. During the days leading up to my interview, I requested assistance from teachers who were willing to offer me advice regarding the dynamics within a group interview and the most effective techniques to answer questions thoughtfully and efficiently. I deemed these wise words infinitely important and was mindful about how I would execute each strategy to depict my dedication to earning success in every aspect of my life. My internship interview was an entirely new environment for myself as I had never had a professional interview for a life changing opportunity. The time had come to present my attributes, strengths, weaknesses, and everything in between. Every second spent in preparation for the one hour interview proved to be worthwhile, as I showed strength, integrity, and honesty. A strong belief in the power of my own integrity, inspires me to act, think, and exist with honesty. Honesty, one of the most beneficial traits to embody displays an individual’s integrity, through their decisions, down to the most concrete. After the interview concluded I earned intense relief and a prideful sense of achievement.
