Reflective Essay: Diversity In The Workplace

I work with all kinds of people every single day. I have participated in so many different clubs and activities that I have met and worked with every kind of person that there is. During the fall I work in a customer service job. This has taught me how to work and interact with many different people. Most importantly it has taught me how to handle angry people while still being as polite and helpful as possible. Through Junior Zookeepers I have lead and followed many different kinds of kids. The Junior Zookeeper program is filled with many different kinds kids. I lead four new kids each day that I work. I have met some very strange kids and I have met kids that are very different from myself, but I have learned how to lead them and how to talk to them. Getting some kids to talk can be difficult, but when I get some of the ones that I would normally never interact with to open up, I get to hear things from a very …show more content…
I learned how to lead from older boy leaders, and I learned how to work with some very unhappy leaders. I learned how to solve conflicts with people that are in charge of me. I also learned how to lead in a meaningful way. I lead in some very remote wilderness. I lead in places where your leadership decisions matter much more than the decisions you make on student council. The biggest source of diversity in my life, however, is school. We have over two thousand students at my school. I have been in classes with every kind of person. I have had many different kinds of teachers. I have friendships with people who are white, black, Asian, Latino, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, straight, gay, male, and female. I interact with people that have views that are very opposite of mine.
