Reflective Essay: Creating An Interdisciplinary Studies Degree

After reading chapter 1-2, I have a better understanding of the interdisciplinary area of study. An interdisciplinary studies program offers you the chance to individualize your college education by creating a degree program that includes the study of several different fields. This field allows me to take courses as it relates to my work experience. For example, I have taken courses in management. These courses can be transferred into any career path that I may choose. Management course provides basic skills to get you to that next level in your career. Career professionals want to see that you have the skills needed to manage people and understand how to communicate effectively with internal and external customers. Interdisciplinary studies have allowed me to structure my courses to reach my goals. …show more content…
When I first started at FODCC, I wasn’t sure how this experience was going to help me with my career goals. I was hired on as a Human Resource Generalist in December 2016. I always like helping people and people like the advice I have to offer. As it turns out, this has had a huge impact on my new career path. This job has giving me the experience that is needed in order to achieve my goals. Awhile back I injured my arm which limited the amount of time I would be able to use a computer. Due to the injury to my arm, I am now looking for a career in which I am able to use my other skill sets and not focus as much on the use of a computer.
