You’re trying to escape from your difficulties, and there never is any escape from difficulties, never. They have to be faced and fought. - Enid Blyton. This quote along with my own personal ordeal, inspires me to grow my psychological roots to new extreme levels in which I aim to specialise in clinical based psychology/counselling. My ongoing enthusiasm for this course is an everyday occurance from exploring historical theorists, analysing quantitative data to simple thoughts such as why an individual performs a specific behaviour in a certain situation. The scientific depth of psychology never fails to amaze me such as EEG’s and various other scans involving tracking brain activity, it’s truly fascinating and that’s an attitude I’m proud …show more content…
My main achievement is my confidence boost. I used to be shy and wouldn't take advantage of a teachers knowledge which resulted in avoiding questions and some obscurity. However after the realisation that I needed to overcome this weakness, I raised the bar and pushed myself into being a student chaplin in year 12 and a member of the student committee in year 13. Roles consist of treasuring money, meetings at various schools, open evenings, planning prom, dealing with reports from the students of our college, dinner sessions in the chapelincy with lower school students and trips out to church halls to teach various primary schools about the importance of religion. Being granted with these roles demonstrates that I’m a motivated helper who is dedicated to satisfy peoples needs and is able to converge and diverge within my language when dealing with individuals of different age ranges. Also, having a responsibility with working with the colleges income is a skill that will be used to its maximum during university as I can transfer skills to cope with my own student loans and living finances. The fact my college is catholic also contributed to my thrivation as I think attending chapel every week as a regime throughout school, succored and gave me

The first video I viewed was Carl Rogers and Client Centered Therapy. In Client Centered Therapy, according to Rogers, the therapist needs to be genuine and congruent while displaying a nothing hidden attitude (1965). Prior to his session with Gloria, he said, “realness in me equals realness in her” (1965). It is important in Client Centered Therapy for the therapist to display attending skills by actively listening to what the client is saying; thus allowing them to explore deep within themselves. I did notice during the video that Rogers sat leaning forward, a style used in active listening.…

In matching Janet’s posture, language and tone, I reflected back to Janet her external behaviours. When I commented to Janet “and because you know that at the base of it’s not you it’s him” I put into my words her thoughts regarding his behaviour. Janet’s response of “well that’s the thing, I don’t let it affect me anymore…” allowed her to then explore why her reactions to her ex-husband had changed. I found this skill of counselling particularly difficult in this session due to our friendship.…

I have never experienced therapy, but always had imagined how the process would be. I pictured a couch and a therapist on a fancy chair like in the movies, and I would just lay there and vent about my problems. Initially, I was very excited to see someone whom I can speak with and possibly help me resolve my issues, but that excitement did not last long. Anxiety kicked in as I got a phone call from the therapist, informing me that we would start next week. I started to become very nervous about the whole client-therapist relationship, for what if I did not connect with.…

I feel that I was able to accomplish this because of my hard work and great feedback that I have received from my classmates. My other important goal I had for myself was to fix all of my grammar errors which have haunted me throughout my entire educational career. I am most certain that I accomplished this goal mostly because of the help of my handbook without it I might have still been lost. I mostly feel proud of how well I did in my narrative essay because that was a first for me and was also the one that stressed me out the most.
