Changing for Good Reflective Essay
Precontemplation
I was unaware of the amount of physical activity I should have been getting when I started my journey as a sophomore in high school. I was a four sport athlete participating in volleyball, basketball, golf and softball throughout high school. Everyday, I would attend a one to two hour practice but I was not meeting the physical activity requirements because I was not continuously active throughout the practice. I was meeting my 150 minutes of moderate activity each week but I was not resistance training requirements. At my high school we had a very nice and new fitness center that we could use for free but most female athletes avoided it because the boys were intimidating. When I was in

I was beginning to think maybe I would need to start resistance training when I finished my basketball season before golf started. My brother was now a freshman in high school and he had just got his school permit so he could drive to school by himself. This was a big deal because he was in basketball and track and the coaches required them to be a weight lifting at 6:30 in the mornings three days a week. At my house we lived a 10 miles away from the school and our parents did not allow us to drive two cars to school and if my brother, Will, had to be at school at 6:30 in the morning, I would have to ride the bus or ask a friend for a ride to school. So I decided I would need to start going to weight lifting in the mornings with my brother. Emotional arousal was apparent in my story because I did not want to be the one junior in high school that would have to ride the bus to school while my brother drove my car to school. It would have been humiliating to ride the bus with a bunch of junior high students. So I started to do some self evaluation and decided that it would benefit me if I went to weight lifting in the morning so I decided to go with my brother after basketball was

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

There is a saying that I heard long ago that has impacted my life in more ways than one. “Everyone has a sad story”, but the difference between myself and others is that I did not let it crush me, I let it inspire me. A few years ago when I wasn’t sure what sport to pursue, my father introduced me to CrossFit. CrossFit is a form of physical training that uses intense cardiovascular movements blended with Olympic weightlifting maneuvers for a total body work out.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

Over the span of the sixteen years I have spent on this planet, there are a few things I have never done, one of those things being a vigorous workout. I get a limited amount of physical activity with tennis being my only form of exercise besides daily chores and yardwork. Because of this limitation, I thought it would be a good life lesson to get professional advice for a workout plan. The professional that was kind enough to help me is the same tennis coach I have been playing with for years, Sarah Ansboury. Before starting my workout plan, I was warned of my lack of practice in the field of physical activity…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

Change in Leadership in the Workplace While every organization experiences changes in leadership and organizational structure, few have the shuffling of managers and shifts in organizational ideology, as often as police departments. With mandatory retirement ages, employment contracts, and the ability for individuals to take advantage of retirement packages, few chiefs stay longer than 5-7 years at one department. In thinking of personal change right off the bat I personally view it as a point in time in my life where I felt like things took a turn and shifted.
