Reflective Essay: Challenge Conventional Thinking

The words “Challenge conventional thinking” have been something I've tried to live by day to day. I actually made a game out of it, using everything my friends, parents, even siblings have said or told me to do and tried to find an alternative or what I thought was a better solution. I'd always take precautions to make sure they didn't think I'm deliberately undermining them, but I always felt doing this challenged my programmed way of thinking. I want to be the exception that I'm always hearing about, I want to be the one to fix the problem and teach others how to do so. Orthodox Thinking is a problem I want to combat. The problem with conventional thinking is everyone, adults and children go to different lengths to fit in. These lengths can and usually do included stepping on other to boost their own self esteem. This is the problem I want to contest because these mentalities multiply into bullying, self-harm, low self esteem, a wide range of problems that all stem from a common thought that if you don't fit in with who's around you you're losing in life. I have been raised knowing two different quotes by heart and they are very important to me, the first “Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.’ This was said by Bruce lee and he is trying to convey that you have to find your own path using your own experiences, skills, talents, and determination. A life based off another’s isn't yours, everyone is different and has their own set of qualities that can help them excel if they stay true to who they really are.
