As a Captain I was assigned a team of six students, ages ranging from thirteen to seventeen. My role was to lead and build real relationships with each one while bringing them closer to God. Within the time I possessed with them I heard stories of triumph, hardships, and revival. One of the stories was described by a boy about his own phoenix. At a young age he was diagnosed with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a blood disease which causes the immune system to mistakenly attack platelets. ITP causes spontaneous bruising, bleeding, and red spots found in various places on the body. Several years ago his condition worsened which led him to require a blood transfusion. For days he waited in the hospital in search for his perfect match. Finally, the nurses notified him that a donor had been found and the transfusion commenced. Once finished, my teammate asked his father who the donor was. To his surprise his father replied that the person wished to remain anonymous, leaving no personal information behind. From that day forward my teammate vowed that he was going to treat everyone he came across as if they were the anonymous donor, the person who had given him a second chance at life, because that is exactly what the Lord had done for
