Professional learning is an ongoing process and I am at my best a student eager to learn. Last school year I worked on completing my gifted endorsement and this year I am enrolled in the Teacher Leader endorsement, my mom always tells me that I love learning so much because when I was in her womb she was in her senior year in college, she even tells me I took a couple of classes with her, and would respond in her womb to the professor, so, I guess I’m a natural born learner. As a student I was inducted into several honor societies including Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, Phi Kappa Phi, International Honor Society, Pi Lambda Theta, International Honor Society for Education, Pi Sigma Alpha, Political Science Honor Society, …show more content…
I have worked closely with the district level Social Studies coordinator at both the summer academy and the district wide professional development held at the beginning of the school year, it was my immense honor to be able to work with her as I continue to grow as a leader. Additionally, I presented a class on “Best Practices in Social Studies”, in which I trained other teachers on making social studies engaging through the use of mnemonic devices, foldables and the technique of “activating SCHEMA”, which is simply a set of questions through which social scientist should always be thinking to ensure that learning connections are forged. I have had the opportunity to hold several building level professional development sessions including training session on the iMM pad training, screencasting, and engagement strategies to name a …show more content…
All of these accolades simply represent the sacrifice I am willing to make to ensure that one day all children will have access to an equitable education. One of my greatest recognitions was last school year, on the Friday before Christmas break my principal, assistant principal and someone form the district office came to my classroom, they said to me “The Secret Santa wants you to know we recognize and appreciate all of your hard work and dedication to our students” they then handed me a card with a beautiful message inside, being recognized by the district level personnel for outstanding commitment to students was very meaningful, because I work hard each year to ensure that my students are growing academically, but also so they know that I care and am dedicated to their

Upon reading DiAngelo & Sensoy there were five main points of concern addressed within the article. These topics had concern on the basis that the students coming into this course may more or less be unprepared and unwilling to open their minds up to this new material. The first main point was about aiming for intellectual humility. The authors claimed that this meant the students are apprehensive about learning new material and challenging their current and developed beliefs. This main point makes a reference to an astronomy student conflicting with his teacher on the existence of Pluto.…

Viewing the past four essays shows the progress and decline of my writing style, and structure. The four essays that were required by the class varied from the best to the worst, both having their similarities and differences. Choosing two out of the four essays, I came to a conclusion that the “process analysis” essay was the best, and the worst essay was the “descriptive” essay. Although it varied from their definitions and structure, the essay’s showed how much the writer, put their work into it. The certain characteristics that made it the worst to the best defined how well the essay would turn out to be.…

My Road to Reading and Writing As Mark Twain said, “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read”. Many people today don’t take up reading or writing as a hobby. A lot of people would not even read a book for entertainment or to expand their knowledge and the most they write is a post on social media. In my opinion, most people know how to read but chose not to because they are uninterested or unwilling which causes them no to be as proficient in writing.…

Being able to read and write is an essential skill, everyone needs this skill. Reading and writing is used everyday without even thinking about it. I came to the United States when I still believed in fairy tales and Santa Claus; everything to me about the United States was different and new; I went to school not knowing English, I didn’t have any friends and most of all, I struggled trying to comprehend my teachers. I was eager to learn English and to be able to write. Before I came to this foreign country my dad would travel to Nicaragua which, is where I’m from he’d bring toys that would prepare us to learn this new language that would later on give us so many opportunities.…

Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I was president of my high school 's drama club and treasurer of the Scholar 's Bowl Team. I volunteer with my former high school 's High School Prep program, a summer program to help incoming freshman get use to our school and introduce them to some upperclassmen so the transition is a little easier. I also worked as a co-director of the elementary school theatre program (K-8) and the co-creator of a spring break theatre camp (age 6-13). My philosophy of education is for the children to grow by achieving their potential in an inclusive environment knowing to respect every individual values and beliefs. I believe every child has the potential to achieve irrespective of their abilities as no two children are born the same. As Rubio (2009, online) states, each classroom has children with various abilities and needs, who all develop at a different pace. However, by teaching in a classroom having mixed abilities would stimulate and motivate a child to learn. As Dewey argued (Nodding 1998, p.9) that education has to be tailored to the needs and interests of individual children and social constructivist approach for teaching; where a child is scaffold by a more knowledgeable other.…

Something in my character really says that I am not a person that brings up the team as opposed to just myself. The three categories I believe I act the worst in are categories in which people are receiving direct action as opposed to them just analyzing what I do(Model the Way).…

During this class, I have learned so much and my view on a few things changed based on the things I was taught. Before I came to this class I honestly did not know what to expect. I thought it was just going to be a class where I write essays by the high school standards but my opinion quickly changed. I chose the first essay that I had written in this course in which I really connected to and had a big emotional attachment to the topic I chose. Bullying is a very common topic, and was easy to revise my essay into something else such as the book I wrote.…

Before taking this class, I had a whole different outlook on what I would be learning, but I am grateful that the instruction I had made me reflect on the kind of classroom and practices I believe are important especially when it comes to teaching social studies. Practices and approaches that I would have never considered including into an elementary classroom curriculum such as research, flooding a terrain model, and role play have opened up my eyes and created a very different vision of my social studies classroom. In thinking about what children need and keeping their interests in mind, I honestly do believe that when students are learning about social studies, they need more than to just memorize names, dates, places and to worry about…
