Reflective Essay About The Gospel

Growing up, I was enveloped with a family that believed in God and went to church regularly, and heard about God, Jesus, and other Christian things day-in and day-out. So, when I was four, I decided to put my faith in Jesus as my Savior, but I didn’t fully grasp all that it meant for me. From that day, I went on and did what I like to call the “church thing”, attending Bible study clubs, church on Sunday and, when I was older, youth group, but never actually taking to heart what Jesus meant to me.
When I was 15, the truth of who Jesus is and what He’s done for me finally began to impact my life. Gathered around the warm campfire, my youth group listened to my pastor as he gave a message to us about spending time with God in prayer and reading His Word. I could feel the conviction rising in me over how little time I actually spent trying to understand God. As my youth pastor wrapped up His message, he passed around a piece of paper to all of us and had us write down any and all of the bad things that we could think of and then had us throw the paper into the fire.
