What Would I Change About The School System?

I am going to start out by apologizing because this is going to be long. But I believe everything I say is worthy of saying so I hope you don’t just give up and stop reading. I am a person that doesn’t particularly like school. Something about being stuck in a classroom for seven hours and force fed facts I don’t always want to learn just has me counting down the days till summer. So are there things I would change about the school system? Yes. Is there an aspect I wouldn’t change about the school system? Honestly, the only thing I wouldn’t change is the music trips we go on. There are so beneficial and so much fun and they are honestly the only thing I look forward to about school. We get the chance to be a part of a music group and travel …show more content…
That’s a heavy question. First of all, our school has a lot of ridiculous and unnecessary policies that hinder my education. Now this isn’t a battle of the dress code, but if you are going to make me sit in the office and miss class because my jacket says Newport Beach instead of WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL with a quote and pictures then that hinders my education some. But like I said, this isn’t a dress code battle. One of the other main issues I have with GCA is the fact that we don’t get to choose our own classes. Now I know that this school is preparing us for college but if I decide to go in a music, art, drama, or even a culinary career then I don’t believe I’ll get very far with this school’s help. Our school is an educational school so if you go here you are presumed you will go into most likely a science or medical career. Well news flash, that’s not everybody. I sitting here forced to take Physics when I know that whatever career path I choose will NOT have physics in it. We are also all told to take honors and AP courses. That’s fine, I get this is a rigorous school and if you want normal classes go somewhere else. But they just pile all the honors and AP courses on top of each other and each teacher assumes since their class is an AP class it’s most important except NEW FLASH they are all AP courses and now we have to pick and choose which classes to focus on. (Especially when the teachers don’t coordinate and we have multiple tests on …show more content…
People think that if they give children the choice of art or math of course they will choose art but that’s not true. There are people out there who love math, am I one of them? No. And that’s okay. I shouldn’t be subconsciously pushed into these careers. It shouldn’t be socially looked down upon to get an art or music major. Our whole lives shouldn’t be judged by a grade! TESTS DON’T DEFINE WHO WE ARE! The ultimate school: freedom of expression, freedom to choose what you learn, and teachers coordinate with each other so that tests aren’t on the same day. Ultimately, the school should cater to the student to help them be who thy want to be. We shouldn’t have to change and break ourselves trying to bend over backwards for schools. Homework could be gauged for each student. For example, if you really understood what was going on in class then just a little bit of homework to reinforce the idea. If you didn’t quite understand then you’d have more homework to hopefully help you understand. School ultimately, should be catered to help you in life, not help you pass some test you might not even truly care about. School today just stresses students out and make them miserable and only makes them fear the rest of their life. I know this was

Often times today there are three main points that are given: “to make good people, to make good citizens, to make each person his or her personal best.” The problem is that most school fail at achieving these. But this is still wrong. In his article Gatto quotes H. L. Mencken from The American Mercury “the aim… is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. ”(151) Gatto then talks about how Mencken’s article discusses that our current school system is based on the military state of Prussia.…

School is the beginning of our adventure through life. It not only teaches us the mandatory lessons needed but also ones that stick to us throughout life. Whether it was that one extraordinary teacher or the one everyone hated, students would still learn and use it to their advantage. Unfortunately, this was the mindset of teenagers/ young adult’s years ago; now the students of today aren’t understanding the value of their education and how far it can take them.…

Stop Saying That the Public Schools in North Carolina Are Awful There are always teenagers complaining about the certain things they do not like about their schools; for example, if their next class is far away from the one they are now, if the school’s bus is late almost every day, or for what reason do they have to go to school if they do not want? I understand not everybody in North Carolina likes the way in how the public schools in this state work, but if we focus more on their good side like their installations, services, and educational system, we will find how wonderful these schools are. First, the installations of the public schools in North Carolina are not as bad as many of all us think. As a foreign student, I have had the opportunity to see the differences between the public schools in Mexico City and those in North Carolina, and I have found that the ones in this state are awesome.…

Against School Response Many would agree that school is important, including myself. However, just because it’s important doesn’t mean it’s always pleasant for the students (or teachers, apparently.) In fact, sometimes, besides school being an unpleasant experience, it can ultimately end up being a big waste of time. Not just for the student, or even the teacher, but everyone that attended a school that didn’t care about their students. Like John Gatto said in his insightful article “Against School”, when someone is educated, it doesn’t necessarily mean they went through twelve painful years of school, nor does success automatically mean that you went through them.…

If you had the chance to give students the academic journey they deserve would you? Year-round could help so many kids improve intellectually. With year-round school, students would have spread-out breaks instead of one large break, summer. There are still the same number of school days just a different way of using them.…

Year round schooling can be summarized into one simple word: unjust. If the national school schedule were to change, it will undoubtedly have lasting effects on people’s family and the community. Family vacations, child care, and routine living would be disrupted by year-round educational programs. Federal and local government agencies, individual communities, business, churches, recreational activities, public service-programs, and patterns of operations. No matter what, this will force a huge change to the American lifestyle.…

Year round school is looked down upon by many students and parents. But what if they were to realize that students attend the same amount of days that traditional schools do with more breaks. Year round schooling should replace traditional schooling to improve students academics and benefit families. In the first place, year round schooling has many advantages to students academics. The National Summer Learning Association said that kids do forget many things over summer break.…

Schools are very important for students. In school, we can learn a lot of things, but students need the right teachers and the material to be successful in life and for a better education. Jean Anyon in “Social Class and The Hidden Curriculum of Work” shows that in some schools they don’t have the right teachers or material because of the economy or the neighborhood the schools are located. Also low-income people do not get the same education as people with a good economy.…

Firstly, schools eliminate qualities that makes every student unique by “dulling” their minds and by in some cases putting students under dress codes that are too strict. Schools “dull” students by giving them problems to solve and then telling them that there is only one way to do those problems; by telling students that there is only one way to find the answer then students are taught to not think critically and this results in them being not very smart. The point of creating students who cannot think critically is that they end up being dependent on others and do not gain any leadership skill, this results in a society where most people only know how to follow and not to lead. Schools gives each student a long list of classes that they need in order to graduate from high school, this “dulls” them by not giving them much room to choose their own paths of learning. While you can argue that even though schools give students the opportunity to choose the order in which they take the required classes and the opportunity to choose certain optional classes; the fact is that the classes that are required to take fills up the majority of each students schedule.…

During my time in high school, our choir went to state every year, the art department won first in show year after year, and our forensics team won state two out of the three years I participated. We worked incredibly hard for those achievements; however, year after year, the allotted budget for extracurricular activities went to new football uniforms, or a new score board. We never understood why they got fresh uniforms and new equipment every two years when they couldn’t win one game. All the while, music clubs were stuck sharing sheet music, and the theater department paid for their own supplies for set design. Institutions of education across America carry the weight of shaping the next generations minds.…

We are in the dark ages of learning. There is an insufficient focus on creativity in school. Integrating more arts into the education system would aid students in feeling more involved in their education, It should be made mandatory that students choose at least two. There must be a balance of all subjects so that they are less likely to become disinterested. We are all being taught to think identical instead of thinking differently, or at least we are all taught the same.…

As a teacher, my belief is that students be taught the importance of mathematics in the daily life. I also stand firm that students should also be taught important life lessons that relate to how to succeed and prepare for the future. I think that it is inevitable that students be taught basic curriculum in mathematics. I agree that concepts of Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics be taught but I also think that students should be taught mathematics that deals with finances earlier then the college level. Everyone I let know says I am crazy for going into Math education.…
