Literacy is more than a skill practiced and developed over-time. I believe that the art of writing is undoubtedly a rare passion that cannot be overlooked. When one has the gifted ability to give simple five-lettered words a more powerful meaning than their literal definition, they should consider themselves lucky. Not only does literature allow us the space necessary to grow alongside the millions of authors, but it also exposes us to the many different styles of writing. Through reading, we naturally develop a stronger hand at writing. Writing is an escape from reality for many like myself because instead of being another eager spectator, it allows us to be the mind behind the story. Typically, when I stick my nose into a good book, it is unbelievably hard to pry me out. However like all, there are both negative and positive sides to this situation. The negative ones being, sometimes my work will be compromised for my “necessary” reading, forcing me to stay up until late hours of the night trying to finish my schoolwork. Luckily, majority of the time I managed to refrain from making my reading first priority and instead make my down time a goal after finishing my work quickly, but carefully. The reason I enjoy reading so much is because I take away a lot from my books, and I conscientiously try my hand at the writing styles I have admired. Thanks to my AP English class, my passion for literature has evolved immensely because of the generally higher thinking that was infused in my class’ atmosphere. I learned how annotating can bring about a whole new meaning to novels and short stories, allowing me to appreciate literature with an in-depth passion. Advanced Placement classes expect more of students, including creative summer assignments like this one. Ultimately, my passion for literature has been affected through both being an avid reader, as well as being a writer with a need for creativity. I would not be the same person without having read the heart-warming and tear-jerking stories that I have been exposed to. A world without books would be a life missing creativity and one of life’s greatest gifts – to have the capability of escaping reality for 350 pages. “Passion is one great force that unleashes

I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…

I still need to further my progress on grammar and organizational skills to make my writing flow better and punctuation. Just about all the papers that were assigned to me this semester had almost the same comments which were fixing the little things like punctuation. However, the writing that I must find satisfying are narrative essays because I think that is what I am best at, being one with a pen in paper is what I would say being an artist is all about. Before I would have never said my essays were art but now I truly believe that they are not because I wrote them and they got a good score but because I told my story and did not have to sugar code it for anyone, I expressed myself and put myself for everyone to see. It wasn 't because I wanted to know what they thought of my work but more because I wanted me to think of my work not just confined to myself by out there for everyone to know it 's okay to express yourself.…

Writing allows me to express my feelings in a way that I cannot by just speaking about them. It lets me think about what I want to say before actually saying it. As a student, reading and writing are very important to being a successful student.…

I really enjoyed writing flash fiction mostly because it was a new challenge to convey an idea in such a little space. For me, the process reminded me of how I write poems. I am inspired, get an idea, and am able to start and finish the draft in one sitting. When I wrote flash fiction I had to change my fiction writing mind-set because for one thing, flash is much shorter. Flash fiction makes you think more because you have to fit in so much without saying all of it directly.…

Having this little bit of taste of what college is really like, is what has made me feel confident about writing papers for my other classes. Also, having a persistent teacher has instilled this confidence in me too. These are only a few examples of what Dual Enrollment has done for me. The advice I received from my parents and teachers have really helped me develop as a reader and a writer. When I began to read more often my essay grades began to rise and I felt a lot more comfortable reading out loud for others to listen to my good and bad reading habits. My grammar improved over the years of reading and it is a lot easier for me to pronounce new words that I am not familiar with. Reading and writing will never be my favorite thing to do but they are something that needs to be improved to be able to move forward in…

Writing has always been something I have gotten enjoyment from; sentence structure and grammar being a particular interest of mine. In school, I was quick to catch mistakes in writings and was often praised for my ability to string stories together. Closely observing the techniques and styles of authors I admired, I’ve considered myself to be more of an effective emulator of writing than a true writer. Personally, writing has always been a vehicle for artistic expression, meaning I usually made a habit of avoiding most non-fictional assignments in school. It wasn’t until much later that I learned to use it as an educational and professional tool.…
