Opening Prayer: Lord, we give you praise and thanks for this day, for your accompaniment throughout it as we encountered graces and trials, both beckoning us to draw us closer. We ask that you send your Holy Spirit down upon me as an instrument of your love and Word. May you reveal the hunger within each of us and satisfy it. As we pray together, "Bless us, O Lord, and these, Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen. And bless the cook!"

Hunger consumed you for this desire. Recently I took a course and pilgrimage in the Holy Land through my graduate program at the University of Notre Dame. One of the first things I fell in love with in the Holy Land was the food. It was a fresh and charmingly aromatic cuisine. After a few days in Israel, it was apparent that the first change people back home would notice in me was my expanded waistline. Anyway, even though my taste buds savored the rich flavors, I an intense hunger within me. Being very addicted to chocolate and having not had it for most of my three week travels, my first thought to satisfy my hunger was to find chocolate. After a few days of searching for it, I devoured the European version of a Milky Way called a Mars bar. I ate one and another and another. Yet the hunger was still deep within me. 2. Christ born as food among the Shepherds On one of the days of the class in the Holy Land, we celebrated midnight Christmas Mass at a cave chapel at Shepherd’s Fields, the fields identified since ancient times with the shepherds who saw the Star of the Nativity.
