My Identity Essay Sample

Prompt: Most students have an identity, an interest, or a talent that defines them in an essential way. Tell us about yourself. Throughout the course of my life thus far, I have been through a handful of phases; ultimately, it was whatever my older brother was doing at the time. In the second grade, my brother was intrigued with skateboarding, so being the younger and impressionable brother I was, I also loved to skateboard. Even though I couldn’t even balance myself on the board, I was just captivated by any interest my brother was into. As my adolescent life advanced, my brother and I entered and left many phases. However, there was one phase that I have not left since I was introduced to it over a decade ago and is still a dominant factor in my character today. My faith in Christianity and involvement in my church, Bent Tree, have been crucial in the development of my character and leadership as it has motivated me to confront obstacles and establish my leader-focused mentality. This is the mission statement I have set for myself when I live my life on a day-to-day basis as well as when I journey to Costa Rica to apply the principles I have learned in the Bible. However, I wasn’t always the best at applying this statement to my life. Before coming in contact with Christianity and Bent Tree, I was a huge narcissist. It has taken a decade of spending time at Bent Tree in order to develop me into the man I am today. And that journey will never end; always striving to be a better individual to my peers and community is an aspect that I will never feel fully competent in. However, Bent Tree and my faith in Christianity will never fail to be alongside me every step of the way as I journey throughout whatever lies ahead for me in the near future and
