Exercising My Writing Skills Writing is evolving by the day in the English language, in other words communication is evolving on the daily since writing is our main source of communication. Learning how to write the English language in an academic setting has been one of my greatest accomplishments as a scholar, despite the fact that, I am still learning new skills daily on how to improve my writing. Even though, I am not the best the writer, I have gained enough strength in my writing to separate me from the average writer. In other words, the best way to improve on something is by practicing, and that is a lesson writing papers has taught me. One of my greatest skills as a writer in my opinion is being able to expand on a topic.…
The way I move through my own writing process is simple. I always start with research on a specific topic that an instructor gives me. I’m that kind of person that loves to highlight the important details of someone else’s information so I can admire her or his work in my papers. Then after finding the right amount of work to compose my own paper I start out with a title page.…
My mind feels like a 1000 piece puzzle missing a piece. I can’t simply find the right words to say to start this paper. It is always like this when freewriting; the idea of freewriting in and of itself frightens me. Never able to put the words in my head onto paper in a way that it can be read eloquently by others. My hands start to cramp automatically at the idea of freewriting.…
As you requested, I am writing to share my past writing experiences which include what kinds of writing I have done in school, the feedback that I seek on my work before I turn in assignments, the memories that I have of writing, voluntary writing I have done, and much more. Past Experiences with Writing Previous to this course I have taken several mandatory English, Writing, and Literature courses in which I have gained experience that now impact the way I write. In high school, I took my basic English & Writing courses, along with an Advanced Placement English IV course, in which the teacher persuaded me to join the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and compete in the Ready Writing Competition, in which I won first place in the…
I have been writing my whole life. Although I had rocky beginnings, my writings have been steadily improving. I know even now i am not a very good writer, but I am doing as much as I can to strengthen this skill. Throughout this Word 103 class I have learned a lot about writing and have grown in many ways. But my main focus of this paper will be of how I have grown in Rhetorical knowledge and I will analyze my writing process.…
My experiences with writing have been somewhat limited until I signed up for English 101. I have to admit that English was not my favorite subject in school. I never felt like I was any good at writing, and spelling is still not my strong suit. I always felt like I was better at math. My attitude towards writing was my biggest hindrance to my success.…
For some of us writing might not be as easy as for others. To me writing could be a long process of different stages that might get difficult with time. My writing process is very complicated and confusing but it could be improved by rereading and revising my drafts. I’ve never being a writing person, meaning writing process can get really difficult for me and it even deals with a lot of thinking. I like to think of my writing process as a test because I like to do better every time and just like a test I like to take my time.…
Reflection of My Writing Process As I glanced over my college courses, I found ENG-122 to be the most intimidating class. I felt like I wasn’t as prepared as I could have been because I had no previous college level experience. During the last eight weeks I now feel as though I have developed a strong sense of knowledge in English and writing. I feel like I have learned so much in such a short period of time and it has built confidence in my writing skills.…
My Writing Process My process of writing has been quite simple. I write in the same place with the same writing tools. It works for me and I wouldn’t do it any other way.…
Linda Flower says that “a good piece of writing closes the gap between you and the reader” (184). Meaning that the writer is able to make the reader see things the way the writer does. The writing process is generally long and requires constant revision. I would characterize my writing process as lacking in essential qualities, but improvable by taking more time during planning and revising, and thinking about the needs of my reader. I start my writing process in the comfort of my own room.…
To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…
At the beginning of this English course, I was so nervous and scared that I would fail. I do not think I have ever been a good writer. It has always terrified me because I have difficulty putting my thoughts down on paper. This course has proven to be highly inspiring to me as well as frightening. It has really taught me more about the understanding of the writing process and structure, in which helped me to not focus so much on the actual writing parts.…
The argumentative essay was widely regarded as the hardest essay we are going to have to type this year. The hardest part, in my opinion, was to heavily implement our voice so that we did not turn this into a research paper. The essay was more I had always thought of myself as a good writer, so I thought college writing would not be too hard. This was not the thought when I got my first rough draft back. I then knew college writing was going to be harder than I expected.…
Writing an essay can be troublesome at times, along with other schoolwork assignments to be turned in, there 's a life outside of school as well to be had. This being my official first semester of college I knew a majority of the assignments would be writing essays’. Trust me I know, for some it comes easy; some students can receive the writing assignment and have a paper done the same day. Some of us are not as fortunate, others struggle to compose a sentence, a paragraph, much less a two or three page essay. Everyone has their own writing process, pet peeves, rituals, pre-rituals.…
Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves. Another shaky part of my writing comes much before the actual forming of sentences.…
