Reflection On The Writing Squib

Improved Essays
The piece of writing used for the writing squib was from a journal entry on July 18th 2016. This time for me marks a museum entrance that left me forever moved by the story of Anne Frank and the secret annex. The writing on this day was to take the place of the camera I would have used and wanted to document but was not permitted to do so. The next best thing was pen and paper so I entered with the look of seeking answers to questions never even imagined. I started off the day meeting my professor a half an hour late as I lost my way to biking to the house on Princegrattchen St where the Frank family went into hiding. I felt like crud not making the 12 noon time to meet more with my professor and her husband. This meeting was important because I was going to be introduced to the work my professor’s husband was involved around in the jail and prison system all around Europe and the conditions and access to information and freedom of expression. I was a little flustered that the time was cut short to only a half an hour. …show more content…
This was big because the work and chapters of Ann Frank office all around the world started at home base in Amsterdam. Having a high level of clearance I was escorted through the locked off sections of the block including behind the secret annex not seen by the public and the additional office spaces the Anne Frank Foundation occupies behind the museum and home stead. My upset of being late was taking over by this shift of amazement of what I was experiencing and seeing things that perhaps even my fellow classmates would not see

In Peg Tyre’s article, The Writing Revolution, Tyre analyzes the quality of education in a New York high school and discovers the problem with education in today’s society. New Dorp High School on Staten Island was known for their reputation for poor education, low graduation rate, and high drop out rate. In spring of 2007 four of every ten students starting as a freshmen dropped out from New Dorp (Tyre, 1; 2012). After discussion between the principal and the faculty the staff concluded that the reason for the crisis was that the students were simply bad writers. Starting in 2009, New Dorp put their primary focus into writing, not only in English, but also in all core subjects.…

5,000 miles from our island home, we were catching the bus to a museum. We already visited war memorials and such, but today we were scheduled to see what would be the most impactful place of the trip. The overall energy of our group was rather low. As well as being tired we were dreading the emotional blow to come. Although we never covered the Holocaust in class, we all had a cursory understanding of what happened and therefore were unsure how well we would handle this museum.…

I hope one day my writing will be proficient enough that I will no longer have these current struggles. Although, I do have to say that these writing conflicts have made me a stronger writer because I picked up new strategies along the way. I’m absolutely thankful that I got the chance to write about the subjects I wanted to; I no longer whined about how long the essay was supposed to be because I knew how enlivened the writing process was going to be. Overall, it was quite the writing experienced and it wasn't as horrid as I though it was going to be.…

Hoax; a humorous or malicious deception. What is a hoax? Most people believe them to be harmless acts of idiocy such as the belief in Bigfoot, or the Loch Ness Monster. Though these are obvious examples, many critics believe the Holocaust was a hoax, but certain documents and medical autopsies prove that the genocide of over 6 million Jews was real. It is a proven fact that at one time, well over 40,000 concentration camps were in use for the execution and/or malnourishment of well over a third of the Jewish population in Western and Eastern Europe (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum).…

A hoax, an exaggeration, a lie. That is the Holocaust in the eyes of deniers. All three help support their argument of the Holocaust not existing. When Hitler took control of Germany, these anti-semitic views grew rapidly. “While the Holocaust is one of the best documented genocides in history, with a wide array of evidence documenting virtually every aspect of it” (Lipstadt, 2011), people around the world still decide to turn a cold shoulder.…

In this seminar the three key points I would like to talk about is to always look at the examples for discussion boards and assignments, where to go and learn how to cite resources correctly and the different steps you can take for your topic. When I am unsure of what is required for a post or paper I can always go look at the example to read one. After I see an example I can have an idea of what to wrote about. Also the processor talked about a part of the writing center where I can go learn more about citing my resources. This will come in handy because I still struggle with citing my resources so for now on the writing center will be seeing more of me.…

“The Diary of a Young Girl” written in letters by Anne Frank, is particularly interesting to teenagers and middle schoolers because of how real the book is. As the entries were written by someone experiencing the suffering, the book is very immersive and Anne’s depictions of her everyday life in the Annex is relatable to teens her age, and yet so unbelievable because of the conditions she was forced to live under. For example, she included a list of clothes she would like to buy after the war, but instead of like today's teens, she couldn’t just go out and buy the clothes for possibly years. I found myself growing with Anne through every diary entry as she recalled her past and hoped for the future. The reader gets the experience of learning…

The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…
