Reflective Analysis Of My Strengths

Improved Essays
Some of my strengths in this domain would be incorporating my clients in their health and healing processes, eliciting understanding of my client’s interpretations of health experiences, assisting my clients to resources, and using evolving and relevant knowledge base. While working with one of my clients who was quadriplegic, I reviewed his care plan and noticed that much of it had not been updated since February. After talking to the LPN also working with him, I printed off a copy and brought it to his room to discuss. We went through it and discussed what he was still doing and what has changed. I ended up modifying one of his goals to acknowledge that he will perform breath stacking and coughing techniques PRN instead of the 2 times a day.

After reading a few chapters of Strengths Quest, I was instructed to participate in the Strengths Finder assessment (Anderson, Clifton, & Schreiner, 2006). This 30 minute assessment was an interesting tool that pointed out my greatest strengths. It also provided a detailed description of what having those strengths mean and examples of how they are prominent in a person 's life. After taking the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five dominant strengths are empathy, harmony, consistency, relator, and restorative.…

These competencies are influenced by knowledge, skills, attitudes and values of those involved in the health care team (CIHC, 2010). When we meet these competencies we are then able to come together and work efficiently as one team of health care providers. I value the concept of collaborative practice, as it has a direct and positive impact on my client. As health care professionals, our focus should be on health outcomes of those we care for. Therefore, we need to seek guidance, understanding and support from other health professions to meet our shared end goal, which is the wellness of our clients, their families, and the…

While practicing nursing at VGH in the urology and gynecology units, I have participated in discharge teaching for my assigned patients, a total of three times. The discharge teaching consisted of being sent home with leg bags, dalteparin injections, daily tasks and going over their prescriptions. During that process, I have observed the nurses going over the medications prescribed after discharge from the hospital. I am now aware that there are many patients who will be prescribed medication upon discharge, which they are taking while in the hospital, as well as new medication. While assisting in the prescription discharge teaching, I have observed two patients expressing confusion over the new medications, as to why they will be taking them, and…

An instance of this is when I got caught of guard during a simulation patient interaction when I had to tell my patient that unfortunately their particular cancer was incurable. Nevertheless, one thing I felt like I really excelled at was trying to provide as many options for the patient as possible. For example, one of our online discussions included a patient with severe dysphagia. Instead of just switching the patient from PO to IV therapy, I weighed the risks and benefits of using other formulations such as granulated packets, suppositories, and dissolving…

I previously applied to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Iowa in 2016. I was denied admission for that cycle and hope to be admitted this cycle. Since getting denied I have taken several steps to enhance my application. In my final year of college, I have continued my upward trend in G.P.A., including grades in prerequisite courses. To show the hard work I put in during the last year I was named an academic All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and was also added to the Iowa Conference Academic Wrestling Team.…

I thought the Survey of Character Strengths was an interesting survey to take. My first and second strengths were not particularly surprising to me, however my third was not what I necessarily expected it to be, but I am certainly not unhappy with it. All three strengths are values I have always admired because I have grown up watching my parents and older siblings showcase all three. I have consciously tried to emulate their example regarding these strengths and it was intriguing and encouraging to see all three show up in the survey. I was glad to see which strength showed up as my top, as kindness and generosity are especially important to me.…

I was always specific to certain genres and theme of reading and writing, which is what I think I shouldn 't have done. Well, starting from the young age, I was always fascinated by science and fiction. On top of that, I have always been an automotive enthusiast so I used to spend the most part of my time reading or watching the reviews of Ducatis and Lamborghinis. This meant that I only got familiarized to easy, non-critical forms of reading.…
