Initially, I wanted to write a fictional love story giving a similar impact to the love portrayed in ‘One Day’1
“Dexter, I love you so much. So, so much, and I probably always will. I just don’t like you anymore. I’m sorry.”
The tension the writer creates around this quote is extremely emotional, knowing how much Dexter and Emma love each other, the reader is willing the relationship to work, yet at this point their different lifestyles prevent them from being with one another. Eventually they make it, but similar to that of Romeo and Juliet, 2 their relationship ends tragically as the lovers are forced apart by death. My version would be to not end it there. I eventually decided on adapting this novel encompassing the themes of the power of love and ‘the one’ and also incorporating ideas from the Writers Research Module 2000. I elected to explore a topic most talked about today: online dating. To make my novel stand out from the rest, I chose to fuse this with another issue that is still sitting on the fence: organ donation - a subject that speaks closely to the heart.
The feedback I received after completing Researcher module CPWT2000 was positive, and one idea given to me to enhance the ‘wow’ factor of the story is for the protagonist to be the recipient of the kidney, and the antagonist being the donor, who later becomes possessive and strikes out to kill the protagonist. Although the positive medical effect of organ donation is an important theme within my novel, it won’t be the main idea; life for organ donor recipients still goes on in incredible, unpredictable directions with every day struggles to cope
