I also took on two clients from the ACT Team because the counselors were also overwhelmed and had lost their intern for the semester. I was glad to have the opportunity to experience another part of AMH and work with a different set of clinicians who work with the court system. The ACT Team works with Mental Health court, and the team meets with the mental health court team once a week to go over the clients and determine if they have been compliant with treatment requirements. I was able to attend one of these meetings with the ACT Team and was able to see how they determine sanctions and rewards for the court members. Mental Health court members are required to attend a certain number of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings each week as well as treatment groups and be in compliance with medications. There is a different sets of rules for Mental Health court participants. It is a disciplined program, and there is not much room for error. The client I had from Mental Health court was defiant, hated authority, and in denial about her addiction and mental health problems. I did not have much faith in her to be able to finish the program because she had already relapsed three times and would not open up about what got her in the
