Reflection: Why Should I Get Paid?

Decent Essays
The claim that I have made is that my salary doesn’t reflect the work that I put into the company. I say it in the last sentence of my introduction, “I regret to tell you that my salary doesn’t reflect on the work that I put in.” This is a claim of value because I am saying that the money that I get right is wrong and I should get paid more. I am giving it my disapproval that’s why I should get paid more because I not happy with what I am getting paid. I say, “None of my coworkers have this certificate and I will be the only one to have one.” This is a claim of fact because I saying that in the future I will have the certificate and that I will be the only one with it. A claim of fact asserts a condition that has existed, exist or will exist. I am saying that this condition will exist.

My boss may say that there are other coworkers with more seniority and who have also won employee of the month, but I say, “but I will be soon be taking a course that gives me a certificate in advance English.” This separates me from coworkers as I have leverage over them. Also my boss may question my work. He may wonder if I am a worker who can deal with a challenge. I respond by saying, “when one of my coworkers left for maternity I took over her responsibilities until she came back.” I am telling my boss that I am to do the work of two workers, which makes me valuable, and that I deserve a raise.
I find common ground with my boss when I say, “I know that it might be hard for you to consider me for a raise because I have only been working here for less then a year.” I am acknowledging that I have not worked for a long time and this may not let me get a raise. Also in another sentence I say, “Some of them have been working for a longer period of time than me.” I acknowledge that there are people who have worker for a longer period of time then me, which is why I might not get a

In the short essay “Other Voices, Other Rooms” by Gerald Graff, he discusses the different styles of teaching and why some work and some set students up for failure. As a college student, I agree with a lot of what he states and I understand his meanings completely. He points out that the way students are taught makes students struggle. Teachers will give students tons of information in each class and it is hard for them to distinguish what is what. They become confused and can’t focus on the big picture.…

Last semester I paid around five hundred dollars for five books from our on-campus bookstore. This number may seem large; however, I know of people that paid even more than I did. Full-time students are already paying a tremendous amount of money to attend college so why should they have to spend so much money on buying books that are a necessity for classes? What I am getting at is that books from our bookstore are overpriced. In the Rebel Yell article by Ian Whitaker, “In the face of high prices, students skipping out on textbooks”, he expresses how students are willing to risk their grades and not buy textbooks because of their high prices.…
