Reflection Questions

1. What went well?
The brainstorming activity was a great way to get the students thinking and talking as they discussed the benefits of being physically active at a grade nine level. We received a variety of answers from making friends to preventing certain diseases. I think we did a good job introducing our activity and setting the tone of the lesson with an interactive discussion. During the relay, the girls were very enthusiastic and encouraging to their peers as they cheered their teammates and congratulated them for their efforts. In the end, the students agreed that their favourite relay activity was the bear crawl. It was a brand-new activity for most, and it allowed the students to work their core and exercise their hand eye coordination.

The warm up activity, huckle buckle was very interactive, and encouraged everyone to communicate. I think it was a fun way to transition to our relay as it made the students very passionate

If we did, the students may have been more competitive and eager to acquire points of their teams, thus challenging and encouraging them to work as a team more effectively. Regardless, most of the students were very supportive of their peers as they clapped and cheered for their teammates as they were carrying out the relay.

Finally, an issue with the plank was that it was difficult to see who was still planking. Some students were not performing the plank with the correct form which made it easier for them to plank longer. Often times, we corrected them, but it was difficult to see everyone at once. We could have organized it more effectively so that students would put away their mats after they finished planking as it was difficult to tally the bonus points. Nonetheless, the plank was a great way to challenge the girls as many were very competitive.
