Personal Reflection: How My Most Impactful Class

Improved Essays
This first semester has been very transitional for me and while I learned a lot in all of my classes, I think psychology of relating was the most impactful class I had. I have gone through many changes this year, with a pretty traumatic accident, my brother moving out, the college search, and overall just senior year, I have found myself searching within myself and with those surrounding me for support. I have always been very interested in psychology but never had an opportunity to really learn about it except for reading little articles that popped up on my twitter feed or facebook timeline. In this course, I learned about some key differences between the way men and women form relationships and how that can affect the way conversations …show more content…
Therefore, part of me was changed and I felt as if I had taking 100 steps back and needed to rebuild the blocks to fulfill my need for safety. A lot of my friends began to get annoyed because I was no longer acting like me “normal” self and they didn’t quite understand why I was acting so off just because of a simple accident. I noticed, however, that I was able to recognize these needs and the way that they worked because of this course and therefore, my healing process has been much less frustrating because of it. I think in the future, I will be able to recognize the same needs hierarchy within the people around me and will allow me to be more open to everyone around me. Overall, this course has changed my ability to understand my generation because before I didn’t understand why we were so connected to our phones and how it affected us and I didn’t understand why men and women are considered to be so radically different. I understand humans as a whole more now and it has and will continue to allow me to be more open and willing to talk to everyone and to be able to empathize with

On the first day of school, I remember walking into class and seeing all of the new people in my class. I also remember meeting all of my new teachers. I had no idea how much that I would learn, and I had no idea how much I would struggle to learn the new material. One particular class that I feel that I have learned a lot in is WHAP. WHAP stands for world history AP.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

I have learned to be more acceptance and patients of all walks of life. A few years ago I was impatient of others, or get annoyed with them not seeing my point of view, and their behavior. I was setting myself up for disappointment. I would set certain expectations on others not realizing that these people had no idea. I have learned all of us our different, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.…

My friend group shrank from around 15 people before the transition to about 5. There were fewer familiar faces I saw every day. What I felt was never going to change, changed in to something that I would have never predicted. Now I understand why people say nothing lasts forever. It has taught me that I should always appreciate the present and that I shouldn’t hang on the past too tightly.…

I have become more proficient in some of my classes because I have tried my best to keep up with the work, but I have also been really bad and had my grades down because I keep having health problems. I have missed a lot of school days and that has really affected my grades for all my classes. The days that I have been in class I end up putting my head down for the reason I don't feel good and I dont have the energy to do my work or to learn something new because as much as I try my head started hurting more. I think I haven't grown in my classes like I wanted to and that's something that is really stressing me a lot because I really don't want to repeat the grade I really want to pass my freshman year and go to the next grade.…

Dust accumulated on this object, as it had sat for a couple years in a bookcase tucked away from sight. As the remnants of dust were blown and then wiped off its cover, it began to be reread again. My experience with taking this English Composition one course was like dusting off a dirty book, it meant having to uncover this book of knowledge after being out of school for two years. This book represented in my head, my mind after being out of school for some time, you experience day to day life and slowly forget about writing in general unless it’s basic and needed for work. Dusting off my hypothetical book was learning to annotate again, learning to be a writer and a student again and to see with both eyes open my mistakes.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

Goal I The first goal of the program was to “Apply major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology to prepare for graduate study or careers in which psychological training is relevant”(). Two classes met this goal, Introduction to Psychology (PSY 111) taken at Anne Arundel Community College, and Introduction to Counseling Psychology (PSYC 432) taken at the University of Maryland University College. Introduction to Psychology was the first psychology course I took many years ago. It was the class I took because I had an empty slot on my schedule.…

English 2010 has been a learning experience for me, I've been able to learn a lot about english that I did not know or work on before. With the first essay that we worked on I did a memoir I really enjoyed working on this paper, In class we were able to get freedom to add pictures to are pictures make it a little bit more creative I certainly was not used to this; I’ve been told my whole schooling experience that you have the intro and the conclusion and three body paragraphs. The memoir I was able to write to what I felt like I needed it to be, add pictures so it could appeal more to the eye when reading and also made it easier.…
