I also became aware of the different modes of communication which has given me a better insight into my interactions and conversations with my friends, family, coworkers, and other. I learned a great deal about myself, as well as strategies I can use to improve my chances for success throughout my learning experience as well as in my career.
During the first part of the course we focused on working styles and how we work with others. In addition, I was also able to take down prescriptions over the phone from incoming doctor’s offices and for one office in particular I was able to calculate the patient compliance rate for one of the nurses. All of the tasks that I completed each showed me how valuable some of the information we use in each class can be applied together to dispense one…

As a future health professional I learned that I should listen no matter what the situation is without interrupting. Listening and giving your undivided attention to your patients let them know you are concerned. I learned not to pry in the situation too much. I learned if you allow them to tell you on their own time, you will get more out of them and they will feel more comfortable giving you information that is much needed. I also learned to do research on certain situations before the client get there.…

Choosing the right college was extremely difficult when I was a senior in high school; the only factor I was looking into for my decision-making process was a close kit college. Therefore, I began touring multiple small universities, which brought me to Gwynedd Mercy University. One particular moment really drew me into Gwynedd was when I was with my tour guide. As the tour went on, I watched as she greeted everyone she passed, and the overall friendly and familial nature of the students and the campus became very apparent. By the conclusion of the tour I had already sent in my paperwork to attend the following semester.…

Preparing for this exam was unlike any other exam for me. I have recently accepted a job at Easter Maine Medical Center, as a nursing tech, and the hours of orientation have been challenging to balance with my studies. My new job has required even greater time management than I have previously implemented. I worked a thirteen-hour shift the day before the exam, worked immediately after the exam, and then completed an online midterm for my socio-cultural nursing class that evening. Although I have not received my exam grade, I felt very prepared and confident due to my strict time management.…

Nursing Leadership When we think of nursing leaders, we think of Florence Nightingale, the mother of modern nursing, or Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross. These nurses exhibited critical nursing leadership and management skills. Nursing leadership and management are not the same. In leadership, the nurse leader propels others to meet goals and does not have to be in a position of authority (Kelly, 2012).…

Leadership Reflection Jerri Jo Sterna Influential Nursing Leadership Leadership Reflection Learning and research are integral to the role of a healthcare professional. It is therefore convenient if providers derive satisfaction from acquiring knowledge. This is much easier to do if the provider can realize and quantify what they’ve learned. Reflection is the vehicle by which providers can realize progression in learning (University of Kent, 2012). The Gibb’s Reflective Cycle is useful for leaders to understand the strengths and weaknesses of certain situations in self-reflection as well as subordinate coaching (MindTools, 2018).…

I never really thought about how my writing style as a nurse will reflect on my habits in my freshman writing class. In order to answer this very important question, I needed to talk to other nursing majors and do a little research. There are multiple components that go into a nursing paper. for starters, as nurses we use APA format, which we do not use in Comp1 & 2. As nurses, we need to know who our audience is, we have to modify our writing in order to meet our readers needs.…
