Reflection Of Writing In High School

Attending public school from K-12 the teachers taught me the same type of writing for constructing an essay the traditional introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion. This works for education children in the school systems throughout Texas. The way the schools taught me to write has been beneficial to ensure I do well and wasn’t given a choice of options to choose from for writing. In high school I found a way that works best for me, but still fits the criteria the teachers want to see in the essay. In college I use the same style that I learned but how it works for me, when I was told there is other ways of writing without using the traditional way I was hesitant at first but now curious to know different styles to still be an effective …show more content…
In the sixth grade the way they were teaching us discouraged me to write. I would be bored and couldn’t have a saw so of how I wanted to write. So I just bit my tongue and carried on. In high school I had more freedom with my writing so was able to set up how I wanted to write and found starting backwards for me works best. We are all given a prompt and I would have a summary in my head for my essay and would write it out and that was my conclusion. Then work on building my body paragraphs based on the points I made in my conclusion and add “fluff” is what the teachers would say. Last I would write my introduction and would be better constructed than if I were writing it first. I would spend hours trying to start a paper. Being under a structured influenced in middle school made me realize how much time was wasted when attempting to start my introduction. The style in which I write has worked well in college and maybe a change in style will be good for …show more content…
I have always been hesitant on changing my ways with anything I do so opening myself to a different yet effective way of writing is big for me, and can say I’m excited to learn more about it. I believe that learning a new way will impress professors, business officials and hopefully make me stand out from the crowd. With my past knowledge and upcoming knowledge I know that it will be possible to learn a different way to write other than the

I learned about the various different styles of writing an essay like argumentative, persuasive, cause and effect, definition etc. Each style of essay drastically expresses the writers content in a different way. Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

With each new assignment I started to learn more about writing, and about my writing style. I began to embrace the process that I go through when I write. My attitude towards writing was changing quickly. Murray points out “Every writer goes to the writing desk with a set of assumptions that may make the writing difficult or easy” (86). It’s amazing how much your attitude towards something can effect it, and how the slightest change in that attitude can make a task that was once difficult into something you look forward to…

If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…

The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…
