What kind of experience did you have as a child that you perceived to be traumatic?
When I was a child, losing someone special in my life is the traumatic experience. My family has grandmother, father, mother, older sister, and me. I grew up in the family that my parents have to go working outside in day-time. My older sister and I were looked after by grandmother. She gave me everything with love. I feel close with her so much. She did everything for me by doing breakfast, bring, and pick up at kindergarten. Until I was five years old, my mother picked up me at school, I did not know why my mother picked up instead of my grandmother. I asked my mother, she said my grandmother cannot stay with me anymore. I did not understand what my mother said. My grandmother died by heart attack, I did know what it is. My father explained that my grandmother go to heaven and to watch me from the sky. I felt sadness because I think my grandmother did not love me anymore. She punished by left me here. I have cried during in that time. I did not talk with anyone included my parents. This technique is combination of the cognitive traumatic event(s) and addressing the “worst moment” for raising the client’s tolerance for experiencing the reality of such events. The counselor should review any thoughts after the client describes the “worst moment” in session. The client needs to understand how these unhelpful thoughts may have affected his or her behavior and feelings in the situation. The relaxation techniques should be employed, if a child experiences are a high level of reactivity. Increased tolerance, in conjunction with emotion regulation and stress management training, is believed to reduce the likelihood of the child engaging in destructive avoidance behaviors in response to future traumatic triggers
