Warrant Officer Duties

Greater Responsibility My dad was a senior Non-commissioned Officer, and growing up, I could remember the jokes about Officers and the other branches of the military. By the time I arrived at Fort Huachuca in 2009, I had been in the U.S. Army for almost ten years and never really had an opportunity to work with Warrant Officers. Sure, I had work with two Warrant Officers for about one month in 2003, and one Warrant Officer in my advanced Korean class in 2005, but that was the extent of my interactions with Warrant Officers. With my childhood and lack of experience working with Warrant Officers, I had lumped them in with Officers and believed a good Non-commissioned Officer could lead a Warrant Officer. However, I would over the next few years …show more content…
I added more relevant training that was vital to Prophet operations. Also, I managed to coordinate and teach a double class. We were on resourced for one class. During this time, Chief Grandinetti kept trying to sell me on the idea of becoming a Warrant Officer. He was consistently telling me I had the capacity to serve at a higher level of responsibility than I was currently serving. He took time out of his day to take me to a Warrant Officer recruiting brief. When the slide came up with the qualities of a Warrant Officer, Chief Grandinetti told me I was all of them. I thought to myself those qualities are what make me a good Non-commissioned Officer.
After a year of Chief Grandinetti actively recruiting me to become a Warrant Officer, I began my packet. The packet is labor intensive. However, during the process, I found that other Warrants were willing to help and assist me with getting together the best packet I could. I was discovering the idea of becoming a Warrant probably the best route for me in the process. The final decision that pushed me to submit my packet was when Chief Grandinetti had to leave for school for two months. I had all the knowledge on the course that Chief Grandinetti possessed, if not more. I had sat in all the previous meetings, listening to Chief Grandinetti’s ideas being accepted by Officers in the room, but in his absence, the similar ideas submitted by me were being dismissed because I was a Non-commissioned Officer and not a

In reading Harry & Mary Meinhardt’s legacy, I was reminded of my own career in the military. I also enlisted in the United States Army right out of high school, at the tender ager of 17. And much like Harry, I proudly served for twenty-six years. I rose the rank of Sergeant First Class before transitioning to a Warrant Officer. Having an education has always been of value to me and so has the idea of helping others.…

It’s no secret to the class that I have strong views on the importance of SF soldiers getting experience and understanding the inner workings of an embassy. When it comes to a warrant officer I believe it is essential that he has some experience (3 months?) operating in/around a US Embassy. By the time he reaches company, and especially battalion level, having that experience with afford a warrant officer greater amount of knowledge when advising the commander on how to reach his endstate in a country with no SOF presence in the…

This is a rebuttal to the nonrec I received last Tuesday. The nonrec states that I do not meet my OIC's physical fitness standards in order to be promoted. It does not exactly state it, but I know that he is referring to my 2nd class PFT. His "standard" for promotion as stated by the corporals a couple weeks ago while passing word was that anyone that does not have a 1st class PFT or fails the rifle range will not be looked at for promotion. Although, this standard is now easily achievable for me, it was not the standard for recommendation when I ran my PFT back in April.…

This perceived injustice has the potential to greatly impact the Officer’s performance in turn having the potential to be detrimental to the organization and its mission. Unfortunately, unlike the civilian world, military Officers are generally forced to sideline their disdain for the supervisor, senior rater, and organization in order to avoid a potentially career ending argument over a perceived…
