- For my program I collaborated with UNC Walk for Health Organization for the 96 Years of Healthy Long-Living Prep High School Basketball Game held on April 9th 2016 at Chapel Hill High School. Let me begin, by explaining what UNC Walk for Health is all about. UNC Walk for Health is a two-person organization, co-founded two years ago by Bobby Gersten (UNC’s oldest living athlete) and William Thorpe to raise awareness of and provide practical solutions to chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and cancer. Bobby is the host emeritus and Mr. Thorpe is the promoter. In other words, Bobby is the inspiration and Mr. Thorpe is the perspiration, that is, he is the one doing all the work. It requires a certain level of planning and devotion that the average person does not possess. You have to strive to be perfecta and also be a people oriented individual that has good communication skills. This program also showed me that I have to be as passionate as Mr. Thorpe in whatever I do as a professional. I chose to do a program because as a recreation professional I am going to subjected to many programs whether I am planning or attending them and I also wanted to gain experience with planning events. I decided to do this program because it was the only option that I had and I was approached to assist with it so I took the initiative by accepting to do it and also I love basketball so it was an easy decision. After accepting to help with the event, the only thing I expected to get from this experience is experience itself.
– I was a coach for the Chapel Hill Tigers basketball team. I assembled some players and the other 3 coaches apart of the team. I was responsible for maintaining the facility we practiced in and I communicated with coaches and players on a daily

I took that advice to heart because I did not want to get embarrassed! Mr. Thorpe told us to represent the Chapel Hill Tigers with pride because it is the oldest high school in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and because we live there. .

- For me it was definitely the relationship I developed with the players. It was a rewarding process to come together in a short amount of time and become a quality team. I enjoyed the practices because they motivated each other during drills, sprints, and painful physical exercises. Seeing us come together was special and I will like to be a part of it again if it is possible.
– For me the experience was extremely special because it was the first time I had to build a team from scratch and it turned out great. Also I never coached players that close to my age so it was a nerve wrecking experience but after this event I have come to the realization that I can do it. Lastly, Mr. Thorpe made the experience run smoother due to his passion and desire to conduct a successful event. I couldn’t have asked to collaborate with a better

In the past four years, I have had many experiences with family, friends and an extreme amount of clubs, activities, and home life occasions I am involved in. But in all honesty sports have taught me a lot about people, life and even myself. I have been a part of many teams in my lifetime and played several abstract sports, but at Summit Academy High School the sports are very unique. There are mixed attitudes towards the teams, players and coaches that you would not see at any other school. But I like to call them obstacles and challenges.…

Watching the ball leave my teammate’s stick, fly through the air, and land in my stick was only the beginning of my love for lacrosse. Now, every time I shoot the ball and it strikes the back of the net, I remember the first time I played lacrosse and I am extremely grateful for it. I knew from the moment I picked up a stick, that I had a future and I would need to work extremely hard to become the best player I could be. Although I was not able to catch or throw my first time practicing, I kept pushing myself and evolved into the strong player I am today. After a surprising moment during my sophomore year of high school, my love for lacrosse was never the same and the respect I have for the sport and other players has grown immensely.…

In Biddeford there have been women that were well- known in many different ways, from a journalist, to mayors, to a woman who created a women's association in Biddeford. Although this person may not have done any of these things or is the most famous or well known woman in Biddeford history, she is someone I have looked up to every single day since I was born, my mom, Kerry Mariello. Although she didn't have as large impact on Biddeford history with her actions as others, she is just as inspiring and holds some of the same skills as those who did. This is why I believe she should belong in the same category as these amazing other Biddeford women.…
