The Written Word

In my own Catholic faith I attend Mass at eleven on Sundays, but occasionally with my fiancé when he is able with his work schedule we attend his family church as well. This past Sunday for Easter I attended with his family to the High Street United Methodist church in Geneva, Indiana. It was a beautiful sunny, Sunday morning. I happen to be marrying son of the Pastor, so going into the church as a family makes it extra special. Since my soon to be Mother-in-law is the Pastor, it seems only fitting that I choose to focus my reflection on the element of scripture. During the message she has a projector screen that she uses that may show some images, and also the written scripture for the congregation to follow along with. I have always read along with the scripture on the screen but after taking the time to focus on the meaning of scripture I saw even more importance behind the bold wording. Michele uses the projector screen to highlight and catch the eye of the congregation with images with bright colors and then types out the scripture so we not only hear the words but read them as well. I was listening to her proclaim the word of God, and at times even recite the phrase. This Sunday the phrase that she recited and paused with effect was “He has risen.” That phrase comes form the verse Matthew 28:6 “"He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.”
Through her preaching this Sunday Michele was so filled with joy is exclaiming that Jesus had rose and in the teaching on because of His death we too shall rise and walk with new life in Heaven. Another powerful scripture that was typed out for us all to read was “According to His great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). In reading the scripture she explains to us what it means, and how because of His mercy and sacrifice we on earth are
