Reflection On My English Composition Class

Improved Essays
Today I will be reflecting on 2 essays I wrote. My first essay I wrote for my English composition class was for good Writing. I had to find an Example of good writing online and show or talk about how it applied to what we learned in class. My second essay was for Rex a character in The Glass Castle I decided to write about. What I wrote was to talk about if Rex loved or cared for his family. These two essays stand out because I an extra effort on them.
1. Engage in the processes of drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading.
When it comes to drafting I 'm not the best at it, I say this because the way I like to write my paper. I usually don 't draft but when I do I get a better score on my paper. I wrote drafts for my Good writing essay

I try to write so whoever reads it can understand what I 'm writing about. In the glass table essay, I think I did the best displaying it. In good writing, I was just stating facts to prove a point to support my topic. I really ever pay attention of my tone in my essays which is another flaw I 'm working on. In Rex as a father I feel like I should had explained some things better, like more about the family.

4. Articulate and develop a coherent thesis that remains consistent throughout the essay.
In my Glass Castle essay, I think I displayed a consistent thesis. The thesis was Rex never had the right tools to take care of his family. I back the thesis with examples from the book. I think i did well with it because I was on point with them.
For all my papers this semester it was hard to develop a thesis. I over think my thesis all the time or my thesis doesn 't match my topic. I still think my thesis could have been better in a way I haven 't learned yet. By using my revising skills I was able to

5. Incorporate your ideas in connection with outside materials; this means being able to smoothly and correctly paraphrase and integrate

Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. These essays have benefited me in a numerous amount of ways in which I am going to explain how their writing styles helped me become a better writer. Staples helped me a lot in which he taught me to explain my reasoning fully so that the audience know exactly what I am talking about. Another thing that Staples taught me was to explain the setting of the story in full detail so the readers can visualize what’s actually happening in the story this…

During the writing of my “Fahrenheit 451” and Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” Analysis, I began by first, thinking out my ideas, to put together an essay that would be understandable to myself, the people reviewing my essay, and lastly, my teacher. You are needing a thesis to get your point situated right in front of the readers’ eyes so he or she doesn’t get bewildered while reading. In almost any standardized essay however, your maximum length for a thesis is at most, needing to be one sentence. Even though, you're evidently going to need to write more to get the introduction that is impeccable, but simple.…

The strengths and weaknesses in this paper are glaringly apparent to me now, but then I obviously missed them or had not taken the time to correct them. My biggest weakness with writing in general, and in relation to this American History essay, is forming a clear thesis. I know this for multiple reasons. One, it never feels very clear when I’m writing it, I feel like I try to stick in a bunch of information that doesn’t need to be there and do not develop the statement of the paper clearly enough.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

Before beginning this course, I knew that I lacked confidence within my writing. People say that you are your own worst critique, and I fully agree with that statement. My writing was not terrible in some aspects, but I knew that it needed to be improved upon. I lacked the experience needed because writing was not something that I did on a daily basis. When I first started English 1302, the little confidence that I had significantly plummeted since my writing seemed childish compared to other students.…

Throughout the semester of English Composition I, I learned any new things. Over the past few months I have learned many new tips on how to create a good paper. Although I gained much knowledge over the past few months I did struggle with a few things such as formulating a written thesis statement expressing my main point in the composition, producing rough drafts preliminary to the final draft, applying transition strategies to organize the entire composition cohesively and coherently, and overall practicing various prewriting strategies, such as thinking, brainstorming, listing, and freewriting.…

Prior to English 101, I have been taking several English classes, but each class helped me little by little to an English 101 student. Learning to have efficient studying habits such as study the day of the class and not doing things last minute. Also learning how to actually study other subjects and how to think critically. This has increased my learning habits. My student habits have changed dramatically,…

English Composition I taught me a lot about myself, including how to be a better college student, through the process of writing. At the beginning of the year, I was not very excited about having to write argumentative papers. This is because I did not care enough about the assigned topics to have an opinion. But, I did learn a lot that I would not have known otherwise from having to research information about the topics I chose to write about. For example, in paper #2, I wrote about the niqab and how I believe that it is oppressive to women.…
