I found TESL a very captivating, interesting and practical subject. I had left the university after the completion of my English Honors and I rejoined the university from the second semester of the Masters Linguistics. Therefore, it was the first time I studied TESL as my course. I had reviews from my classmates about the subject and the course instructor before I found my way back to the university. They told me that like we were used to analyse novels and various others texts in linguistics, tesl is very different from the courses we took in literature. It is very experiential and influential rather than solely based on theories and texts. I always prefer studying something that I can follow and implement in my real life. I expected this course to stretch and expand my knowledge related to this subject and it has done wonders. I know many things now which I didn’t know before. What we were learning in the classroom from the several books, we actually put it in use that knowledge by carrying various tasks given by the instructor. In the first part of our course, I learnt what need analysis is, what is the purpose behind need analysis and the importance of need analysis in developing a syllabus. Before the lecture on need analysis, I had no knowledge about need analysis form and its significance. After learning about the need analysis we also carried a need analysis survey for English compulsory course from first year students of English department. When the assignment was given to us, it seemed arduous as I am not much into interacting people. Surprisingly it turned out to be a good experience as I interacted with my juniors who are very talented and amiable.
