“Get some sleep. Think about what your opponent will do. Be responsible. You are playing for your partner not just yourself. Eat a good breakfast and be ready to play.” These are the final words from my tennis coach before the biggest tennis matches of my life… and they went through one ear and out the other of most of the team. Last year my partner and I made it to state in Boise, and we made it to the second day of the tournament after winning our first two matches, which were very long and difficult. We pulled through with two wins, though. We felt like we were on top of the world. Our teammates, who were also our potential opponents later on in the tournament, also won their first two. The team’s moral was sky high so we went to the …show more content…
So we go to a third set to see who wins. My partner and I were playing our hearts out. We were both dripping with sweat from head to toe, and I had gone through three Gatorade bottles. We lose the first game then win the second. We won the third, fourth, and fifth. Only two games left and we are in the championship against our own teammates! However, that is when I hit a wall. From then on out I could not do anything. Balls that I could usually get to, I came up short. My hard serves that I am known for started to slow down, making an easy return. We did not win another game and lost the …show more content…
I scouted out our competition while they were playing, and I felt very confident. I get some lunch, and I am ready to go. I was not feeling tired at all! We play another three set match out in the heat with the sun blaring on us, but we pull off a win. We were in the consolation championship which guarantees us with a medal! We played the town favorite, Bishop Kelly. They just got done with a long match just like us and one of the players had heat stroke so the match was delayed. I went to check in with how he was feeling and he was as white as a ghost. He told me, “Man, I feel awful, but I will still play even though we will probably lose.” The match starts and it is as hot as an oven outside so we were all worried about getting heat stroke. We won the first set with ease. The second set we lose in a tiebreaker. “It all comes down to this. All of our hard work and dedication has lead up to this moment,” my partner tells me. I was very tired. I start making dumb mental mistakes, and I was very slow on my feet. We lost the match, but we still placed fourth which was awesome! I felt bad for my partner, however; because it was her last match, and we lost. We were both happy for a successful year, and we knew we would continue to be close friends as life went on after

Imagine a rocket, specifically molded, perfectly symmetrical, prepared to do it’s job exactly how it needs to with no room for error. Seems almost perfect, on the other hand we have the Rockets, my AAA hockey team the summer before sixth grade. It was made up of players from the La Crosse area who played and practiced together every summer for the last few years. We weren’t exactly the most organized team in the sense of having professional attitudes. The ceiling at our practice arena had leaks and water would pour out if it was hit with anything.…

My most significant leadership experience would be when I was in the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I had been in the tennis team during my highschool years, for 2 years. During that time I learned a lot about being a leader, such as what it means to lead others, and what qualities a leader should have. When I first started playing tennis I started at the position on 2nd doubles, to me I took it as that I was not good enough to play against an opponent by myself on the court. Which was entirely true, because when I began playing I was not any good whatsoever.…

It came as a shock to me, new coaches and many new girls on the team and they chose me to be the captain. This past school year I was given the honor of being the JV Tennis captain, it came as a huge surprise to me, seeing as it was new coaches who had only met me a month before naming me, captain. This was my second year of being on the team and I was one of three seniors on JV, many of the other girls were freshmen and sophomores. My coaches presented me with the idea of being captain by giving me the following three reasons: I always give 120% at practice, I am always the first one to volunteer when they are looking for someone to help one of the new girls and, they saw potential in me and saw that I always had a positive attitude.…

As the game carried on, our team held a commanding lead after the second game leading ten to six by 34 pins. After the second match, Coach Sanders pulled us all together as a team, and he gave us an uplifting speech. Coach Sanders told us we can’t lose focus although we are winning. He also said we have to keep our foot on the gas and whip their tails, and he reminded us of all the Friday weight room workouts we had gone through to reach this point. He told us to give it our all for the seniors that helped to build the program since they were…

Tires crunched on the loose gravel parking lot as I was dropped off at my high school’s tennis courts on the first day of school. With my high school requiring a year of physical education, I opted to take the lifetime sport for I was nervous to compete for a spot on the highly competitive teams my school was known for. I was met at the court by 30 other freshmen with a mixed variety of expertise spanning from the first time to ever hold a racquet to a district ranked player. The district ranked player’s father, Mr. Weaver, was a sophomore chemistry teacher who happened to play tennis professionally in his heyday. Mr. Weaver volunteered to teach the freshman tennis team and to train them the basics before they were transferred to “the real…

I joined my school’s wrestling team during my junior year of high school and went into this new environment with 0 years of prior training and 16 years of “Girls don’t really wrestle”. I was determined to excel during my first wrestling experience to challenge the skepticism that surrounded girl wrestlers. Despite this resolve, I was terrified at the thought of having to actually wrestle someone, so when I found out that my first wrestling match would be against a small, unassuming girl 20 pounds lighter than me, I was relieved. With newfound hope, I went into my match thinking, “How could I possibly lose to someone half my size?”…
