Due to the busy days I had in the week, I neglected to do school work. I was now struggling to get assignments in on time and caused myself to have a huge overload of work to do. According to Taylor (2011), “ people who feel required to work too long and too hard at too many tasks feel more stressed, practice poorer health habits, and sustain more health risks than do workers not suffering from overload” (pg. 159). I had no control over how much work was due in such short time, so I perceived this experience pretty stressful. I did my best to cope using the Problem-Focused Coping method, because I attempted to do something constructive about the stressful situation; I did as much work that I possible could. The stressor in this situation was not that bad because it ultimately led me to accomplish doing my homework. In contrast, I tend to be hard on myself when it comes to grades and school work, so I don’t think I coped with the stressor as effectively as I could have. Instead of using negative self-talk, I could have practiced Mindfulness Training. Taylor (2011) refers to this as a, “systematic training in meditation to enable people to self-regulate their reactions to stress and the negativity emotions that may result” (p.185).
