Science Autobiography Reflection

Improved Essays
When I re-read my science autobiography from the beginning of the semester, it made me realize how little I knew about science and how the experiences I have had throughout my life involving science were vague. This proved to me that it was an unimportant topic or was not made to be important in school throughout the years. Some of my views have changed while others have stayed the same. I still believe that my lack of memory of science from grades k-12 is a reflection of poor and uninspiring teachers that did not show me that science could be fun and touches on multiple elements of the world. Science was always portrayed as just one thing such as, experiments and playing with chemicals. It was never expressed as something that was all around …show more content…
Before this class, part of me forgot that one day I was going to actually have to teach science for my class, let alone understand that there was a certain way teachers should teach it. It has become such an under appreciated subject that even future teachers can forget the importance. This class changed all my previous opinions and showed me the true importance of science that I would have never realized before. One of the many things that have stuck with me is, if you teach in a meaningful way then the whole class benefits. I am walking away understanding that science is much more then meets the eye. That there are ways to make students feel excited and intrigued to learn science, for example, discrepant events. Additionally, I learned that science is just as important as math, social studies, reading, writing, etc. Teaching kids in a way that promotes inquiry, questioning, problem-solving, forming predictions and hypothesize is important not only for science, but it helps them with situations in the real world. I understand now that teaching science should not be teacher facilitated. As teachers we must create a structured environment where students are free to act as mini scientist. Teachers must make students believe that they are capable of doing anything a scientist can do, because they

Although the rigor was challenging, I discovered the classes to be interesting as I learned to apply and synthesize what I was learning with my everyday surroundings. In AP Chemistry I was astounded to learn what my very existence was made of, and in AP Environmental Science I am learning of a love for the environment I never knew I had. Science classes as my school have made it possible for me to explore my interests in science and my environment.…

That helped strengthen our abilities because it made us realize that science can be used anywhere in the real world, if only we put our mind and thoughts to it. This also helped because you realize that when experimenting the variables are what is the most important part of the experiment / activity because without variables there would be no cause and effect of the given question, as well as no experiment. Those variables in the activity helped us better understand the use of a hypothesis and coming up with what we think might happen. The class had argued what makes a person playing tug of war the victor and what helps him or her win.…

The main goal of teaching science is to teach students how to use science to solve problems in writing or speaking about issues in which science is relevant. Scientific writing and talk often project science as a description of the way the world works rather than as a human social activity that tries to make sense of the world. This will help students learn that science is all around us, influenced by human uncertainties, judgments, values, and interests. Science is creative and science is tentative, which means that scientists recognize that understanding things based on current research. Science is like a law which is subject to change as more evidence are found or redefined.…

Ever since I was a child I wanted to help people and didn’t realize how, until I stepped foot in my 7th grade science class. The day still replays in my mind like it was yesterday. I was walking into a new school, with new people, and I felt like the last leaf stuck on the tree, waiting to fall in place where I belonged, but oddly enough, this one basic anatomy and physiology class made me feel welcomed. What made me feel welcomed wasn’t really the teacher or the students in there, but the environment of that particular branch of science. What was so amazing about that side of science was there was always more to learn and more importantly you were learning about yourself.…

When I was a young girl, pencils and paintbrushes were practically extensions of my fingers. I may not have been able to recite the alphabet or count to 26, but with a box of magic markers, I had 1,000 words at my fingertips. My first few years of school consisted of many parent-teacher meetings that revolved around the fact that it seemed impossible to keep me from scribbling sloppy stars and smiley faces on every assignment. That is until one day, I finally found a subject that I was truly interested in, and could also benefit from my hobbies and talents: science. I came to love science because it is fascinating, constantly changing, and most aspects of the subject allowed me to expand my mind further than my imagination.…
