The Purpose Of My Life At Saint Augustine Beach

Decent Essays
“Purpose,” as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary, is “the reason for which something is done or made, or which it exists.” All throughout my life, I have always been asked, “What is your purpose?” or “Do you know what you want to do with your life yet?” My answer has always been, “I have absolutely no idea.” I have never been able to set a specific long-term life goal and I have stressed the majority of my life trying figure out what exactly my “life purpose” is. Earlier that day I had been bombarded with questions from my family about figuring out what I was doing with my life. I was to the point of frustration that I left home and drove to Saint Augustine Beach. After arriving, I sat in a state of tranquility watching the waves crash. Then, a question came into my mind. “How does a wave break?” I then answered myself, “In simple, a wave breaks because the water is traveling from deep water to shallow water. The water comes in contact with the ocean floor, or the coastline, creating a swell, which then results in the wave crashing.” After answering my own question, my epiphany came to me. Waves do not look for the coastline to come in contact with and break, it happens naturally. Waves breaking are an inevitable occurrence, just like your life purpose finding you. Eventually, your purpose will come and crash down upon you. It will meet you like the water meets the coastline. Looking for your life purpose will not bring you any closer to actually meeting it. If water were to search for a coastline and found that it is 20 miles away, it would still have to wait until meeting the coastline in order to crash. Therefore, there is no benefit for the water to search for the coastline. With this in mind, life purpose is much the same. No matter how hard you try to find your life purpose, you will not find it until it is the right time, just like water coming in contact with a coastline. Looking at the water, I began to think that each time the water meets the coastline, a person meets their purpose in

It was a hot summer, sunny day in Florida usually like most others but today was special. I was going deep-sea fishing for the very first time, my mom told me to put on a lot of sunscreens, so I don’t get sunburn. My family and I got dressed and got into the car and made our way for Pompano Beach pier, where the charter boat would be leaving from. We all packed into the boat like a can of sardens, the captain started the engine and we looked over at the glistening deep blue ocean, the seas where calm, when we arrived at the fishing spot the mates gave us fishing poles and told us to drop the baits in the water, a few seconds later the rod is bent over and the line is screeching like crazy, my parents and the captain start yelling at me to reel…

We are constantly striving to search for the purpose and meaning of the things we do in our everyday lives. I believe we need reason and purpose in order to do anything, just how some need a reason or reasons to keep living, or their lives may become “meaningless”. I believe the meaning of life is to find what is true to you by using your own personal experiences and dreams. Everything you do brings meaning, even if it brings you happiness or sadness or even tragic. Either the experience is good or bad, it still has…
