Because of this, I wanted to create an assignment based on a lesson on symbolism that included not only traditional forms of symbolism in literature/artwork, but also one that included references to pop culture and film. In addition, giving students a choice in what to write about based on what’s personally important to them. The creation …show more content…
However, after doing so, I relied completely on my rubric to create an accurate as possible representation of what it would be like if I were to use this in a classroom setting. Each of the people did my assignment did well and followed the rubric. Because of this, they both received an A grade. Although using the rubric to grade the work was somewhat easy, writing comments and a few sentences at the end proved to be challenging. Although there were several items of note to be underlined or commented on in each paper, choosing a few was hard. Deciding what exactly to write and ensuring that there was real meaning behind it in order to actively help students was an aspect that I also struggled at, especially with the first paper that I graded. When writing comments at the bottom of the rubrics, I wanted to be concise and clear and I feel as though I did that. However, there is certainly room for improvement in my comments and I feel unsure whether or not I wrote enough feedback; I didn’t want to write too much because then it becomes a wall of text, I

I also check the rubrics to make sure I did exactly what was being asked and look at the max points and see what is being expected of me and how I should approach a writing assignment. To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

Every time a due date would come up for a major assignment, we took time to review each other’s work. I do not remember much from these various encounters, but I do remember receiving helpful comments. Granted, I may have felt upset by some of the things said, but I knew that the criticism I had received was right, and I wanted to do better because of the evaluations. This was unusually for me because before this course, I would hardly listen to others since I thought I was always right. Yet, that changed because I wanted to improve my writing, and to do that I had to listen to other people’s ideas.…

This semester has flown by; however, English 101 has shaped my writing in so many ways. Initially, I did not recognize the ways which rhetoric, technology, research, and collaboration have affected my writing. As I review my work from this semester, it is quite noticeable that my writing has improved a lot since English IV honors. Rhetoric Of all the things I have learned in English 101, rhetoric has continued to be something I use.…

Reflection is to revise, to rethink and to take a step back and make sure something is at your best preference. This term is one that I always knew existed, but didn’t apply it to my own work or to my own life. However, now that I know exactly where to apply it, I realize it doesn’t have to be only in education. It could be used in education, in one’s career and life says Sandra L. Giles. It’s interesting because I know exactly what it is, yet I never found the urge to actually apply it.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…
