Ethics Reflective Essay

While this is the very first time taking control and direction over the development of my coursework, I believe I have shown dedication and full participation throughout the course. My dedication shows "pride" and "craftsmanship" with the numerous papers written and the comprehension of the term "ethics". Ethics, I have found to be very complicated, if not at times totally confusing, reiterating fellow student Jessica Hayes with her investigation into "Loyaty". There are numerous aspects and theories applied to the subject of ethics. The required readings, understandably, gave insight into what it means to have pride and a deeper understanding into being a craftsman. Both books Restoring Pride and The Craftsman were interesting reads, although, I did not find them in the sense per se "ethical". Restoring Pride by Richard Taylor appeared to be a motivational self-improvement book. The Craftsman by Richard Sennett, on the other hand, gave numerous circumstances where the quality in a job well done is pleasing not only to the individual but as an application of oneself in society. My beliefs are based on my ever-expanding knowledge and previous learning. Ethics is virtually a self-concept in one 's own beliefs of what may be "right or wrong." Societies and groups try to form ethical decisions for the betterment of society overall. As we grow as a society, the pursuit into treating people "equally" also grows. Businesses, the Medical profession, Unions and numerous other groups have and are forming ethical "codes of conduct” in hopes of alleviating issues. Everyday, we hear how countless people are traumatized by the disrespect of others. Improvements are made, but they materialize slowly as new issues present themselves.
