Reflection On Professional Organizations

Reflection On Professional Organizations I have been conducting research on some professional organizations and I have determined that ASHP would be a good match for me. This is because ASHP is an organization that is heavily involved in advocating legislation to benefit pharmacists, patients, and the health care system. Some of the most important issues to me are getting the pharmacist more involved in a patient’s health care and to make health care in general more efficient. ASHP is attempting to accomplish these tasks by actively advocating legislation to meet their goals.
When I do become a practicing pharmacist, my ultimate career goal will be to provide quality care to a patient whenever they are not able to consult with their own doctor.

Keeping membership allows you to keep your connections and even find more. This is very helpful if you are trying to relocate to another area. Having connections in other areas makes it much easier to find a job there and to move. Additionally, it can lead to promotions or starting in a higher position if you are fortunate. In my case, joining ASHP will allow me to reach my career goals as mentioned earlier. As of right now, I am unsatisfied with health care and the pharmacist’s role relatively small role in the system. One of my goals as stated earlier is to increase the pharmacist’s role and to be given provider status. Joining and actively participating with this organization will allow me to contribute to my career goals of expanding the role of a pharmacist. Having membership in a professional organization gives pharmacists the opportunity of continuing their education and keeping up to date with current news. Even if I am not that active in an organization, I will still be well informed about the issues that my organization is dealing …show more content…
From networking to furthering your career, the benefits are endless. The only issue that students will have is the massive load of schoolwork but after researching some organizations, the benefits are worth it. Plus, it’s not like I will have a lot of obligations, if any at all. This reflection has helped me find a good organization for me to join. ASHP is a perfect fit for me because I am passionate about expanding a pharmacist’s role in health care which is one of their advocacies. I will try and join a few organizations to gain some more experience and learn more about the

Amid a shortage of physicians on the VA staff, and against a bitter and long-term debate over the roles of physicians and nurses - specifically nurse practitioners - a VA proposal has further sparked the argument. I was able to engage in challenging classes within the Honors association as well as expand my confidence within WILL, Women in Learning and Leadership. My perspective on each and every concept I learned kept changing and growing and altering. I learned alongside people of varying cultures, and ages, which expanded my perspective on numerous issues. I changed my major at least four or five times, and did not have to worry about wasting thousands of dollars by doing so. I am still accumulating more information and deciphering what it is exactly I want to do and who I want to be.…

I am currently a senior at the University of Maryland studying engineering and physics and I feel that before I move onto graduate school or move into the work force I would like to have the experience that is AmeriCorps. I want to have the experience for a couple of reasons, some more selfish than others. For one I do feel that I have been very blessed in my life. I was able to get a good education and never have to worry about too much in life, and for that reason I feel that it is my duty to give back to my community and I believe that AmeriCorps is a great way to do that. Which leads into my second reason, and my urgency of wanting to do AmeriCorps as soon as I graduate.…

I have always desired a career that will make a difference by targeting populations, highlight prevention methods, and one that will be a challenge. Prior to obtaining my MPH, I had the opportunity to intern with the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) in the Environmental Health Branch program called the Chemical Hazards Program (CHP). I assisted the CHP staff by creating and maintaining a database from their Environmental Health Education Needs Assessment on a Superfund site investigation in relation to uranium in private well-water. The health data was then evaluated, recommendations were made, and, as a result, I co-authored the Environmental Health Education Needs Assessment Report which entailed details of the project/study.…

As I sat anxiously in my desk the last day of high school, I felt compelled and overwhelmed to decide what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I knew I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare because of my mother, who was a registered nurse. Witnessing the love and care my mother had for every patient even when she was not on the clock really inspired the drive for me to impact the lives of others just as I saw her do. Although after I shadowed one of my mother’s colleagues, I knew I could not handle the gory aspects that are associated with most healthcare professions; however, this shadowing experience led me to discover my initial desire to help others and make a difference. I owe my foremost interest in pursuing a career in pharmacy to my paternal grandparents.…
