Best Concert Reflection

I feel that this concert has been my best concert since my arrival at the University for a variety of reasons. The primary reason I enjoy being in choir and singing is the rewarding feelings I have when we finally are able to present to the audience what we have worked so hard towards the entire semester. What many people who don 't participate in a choral ensemble is the amount of work in class and outside of class that we put in as singers into our work. It 's a long-term process of trying again and again until we get it right and ultimately being satisfied with whatever we end up presented at the end of the night. Music for me is an escape from the hectic and sometimes stressful reality of school and work; being able to come to a class that allows me a safe environment to freely express myself and relax for a couple hours has been one of the most exciting parts of this class and of the concert. Landing on the hard consonants and using them at the beginning of the word to propel the pitch forward worked perfectly. However, where there were any uncertain parts, prime example being the "Fa la la" section of “Fire”, our intonation, as well as all the other technical aspects declined rapidly in quality. As far as rhythmic accuracy goes, “Fire” may have lacked that quite a bit in the “Fa la la” section of the song, as well as small hiccups in some of the alleluia phrases of the Latin piece suffered a smidge. Other than that I feel that our best performances dealing with the drive of singing, vowel shape, consonant placement, dynamic control, phrase shaping, attack, and finally release were executed almost perfectly in “If Music be the Food of Love” and “I am in Need of Music.” In either song we were with the conducting better than either of the other songs and we sang technically so strongly and with such enthusiasm that it made the overall presentation of the song that much greater and

About one month ago I attended a concert here in the Wartburg Chapel. The concert consisted of two groups, the Iowa State women's choir and The Wartburg Choir. I sat in the upper level of the chapel and it sounded absolutely incredible. I was extremely impressed of ho both of the choirs blended incredibly well and always sounded in tune and on pitch. The Wartburg Choir’s “Ain’t no grave” sent goosebumps to my spine with their unbelievable musicianship and facial expression.…

As stated before the concert was not what I was expecting. I enjoyed it more than I believed I would, it certainly isn’t my new favorite type of music, but understanding aspects of it gave me a greater appreciation for the music and the musicians. Things such as a recognizable basso ostinato set by the base player were a familiar starting point. When the soloists needed an accompaniment the bassist varied the continuous rhythm to compliment what the soloist was playing, otherwise, the beat was…

Every day, I try to listen to a new piece of music. Whether it be a string group, unaccompanied choir, or even a percussion consort, I believe that by doing this, so much can be learned from just listening. About the mid-month of July, I came across this piece of music. I thought it was extremely fun and quirky at the same time! I had continued to listen to it, read some background information on the piece, and do a small amount of study on the work.…

Holiday Concert Evaluation After a long summer vacation and a few months that seemed to go by fast, but felt like a lifetime, Concert Band finally had its first formal winter concert. List three positive musical aspects about the concert: I have to admit, since playing in Concert Band for two years now, this winter concert felt different than the rest. (In a total good way.) Maybe it's because I’m an 8th grader this year, and I know the rest of the 8th graders in this class so that way we’re able to participate in all the inside jokes we have as a band.…

The summer of 2013 I attended the Summer Vocal Music Intensive at East Carolina University (ECU SVMI). This was one of the most enlightening experiences of my life. To get a taste of what life as a music major was like as an incoming high school freshman was magnificent. In 2014 I had really begun to fall in love with the program. Not only did I appreciate the information that was being taught but I realized the beauty of music.…

Being able to choreograph and perform in dance concert is a very unique and amazing experience. Creating ideas with everyone around you and transforming those ideas into a masterpiece is a process like no other. With everyone’s opinions out in thin air, you can put all of your ideas into one to create something so beautiful. In Modern especially it was really intriguing to watch the whole process of how the dance was created. Since we did originally have a combo to go off of, it was different watching all the different groups create a combo over the steps but just in a different format.…

I joined my first choir in seventh grade. It was the school’s seventh grade choir and it had about a hundred kids in it. I enjoyed being there so much that the thought of the arts just stuck. It was the night of September 28th and I could not sleep. I was so nervous because the next morning I had my audition for North Carolina High-School Honors Choir. Although I practiced for weeks and sang for my chorus teacher countless times, I never knew of what could have happened in my five minute audition. I would have to warm up and sing an excerpt of the audition piece “Sing Ye to the Lord.” Then I would have 60 seconds to study an 8-measure line of sight singing.…
