Kristen: So, what type of doctor are you seeing now?
9021: I want to say like, general family doctor I think it what it is. Is that what they call themselves, I’m not sure.
Kristen: How did you find them?
9021: At the health clinic.
Kristen: Which health clinic?
9021: The Harlem Health Center, the one in my mom’s union.
Kristen: So, what prompted you to see a doctor?
9021: I think I was sick or something. Yeah, I was sick and then I was like, oh, I should probably go to the doctor, because I didn’t really feel too good.
Kristen: Like respiratory?
9021: I think it was like the flu or a cold or something like that.

So, if you could describe your ideal doctor, what characteristics would they have?
9021: Caring, nice I guess, smiling and just being informed about different issues that affect their patients in general and non-judgmental.
Kristen: Okay, can you explain, if the doctors’ sexual gender, race or gender is important to you at all?
9021: No, not at all, it doesn’t matter to me.
Kristen: So, how important would it be for the doctor you see, to be gay?
9021: It would be nice because they would probably understand a lot more, but it doesn’t really matter as long as they are kind of informed about what they are talking about. I know my doctor, whenever we talk about stuff, she will get her phone and start like looking it up, to make sure she would know and she would kind of understand it. So, I thought that was really cool, she can still learn it while I was there and making sure that she knew what she was talking about before she would tell me and stuff like that.
K Okay, what about how important that they are the same race as you?
9021: Not important.
