One of the most important issues in human resource management nowadays is equal pay. This problem mainly occurs between the average wages for men and women. Between the years of 1971 and 2012 the participation rate of women in employment has risen from 56% to over 70% and 51% of the UK workforce is now female (van Wanrooy, 2013), yet subtle and not so subtle acts of gender discrimination, and in particular equal valuing of equal work, are still evident.
