My Reflection On Fighting The Monster Paper

Improved Essays
What is reflection? That was the first question that popped into my head the first time we had to write a cover letter for the Fighting the Monster paper. The art of reflecting on ones thoughts or their means of writing is rather difficult. As I took on the first reflection, I struggled on trying to make it coherent and not just about how I viewed the project. I wanted to go deeper into why and how I felt when I wrote it. Eventually, I got the hang of it and ended up writing a good reflection so when we were assigned this final reflection on the class, I knew how I would go about it and what I would struggle with. Every assignment during this course was used to challenge us and to look at writing in a different manner. The proposal was a …show more content…
This was especially helpful for the empathy of the monster paper, where we contradicted our opinions and our previous paper. This helped me to understand how to look into a different perspective. The application of ethos and logos was especially helpful when I wrote this paper. It helped me appeal to a different way of writing to a specific audience. Appealing to a specific audience taught me that every type of writing can be different and use a different method of persuasion. The empathy of the monster assignment was difficult to start due to contradicting an entire paper you had just previously wrote that was incredibly detailed and proved a certain point. However, with the help of the lectures in class I was able to really grasp the concept of taking a different stance and finding substantial evidence to support my new argument that I did not fully …show more content…
I was really challenged by this assignment due to the fact that I enjoy structure with my papers and writing. Once I decided on a public service announcement poster I could easily plan and organize all of my thoughts an ideas. I had to create my own structure and layout for my project which is something I have never done so at first I found it rather challenging. However, in the end with the lectures and activities in class I was able to create a PSA poster series that was successful in getting my point across to my specific audience. Now writing my final paper for this class I understand how I struggled with the different assignments in different ways. I realized how every assignment had a point and a lesson that taught me to be a better writer, better researcher, and to build my own structure. It seems apparent now that I learned a lot more than I thought from this class. I now hope I can use these new skills in my other classes and within my future research papers. I hope that I will not struggle as I did with every beginning of each assignment but remember the skills I have acquired an apply them as

This semester I took a class that was new to me. I knew absolutely nothing about journalism coming into MMC2100. The most valuable assignments were the AP practices. Although I was frustrated because I bought the online access to the www.apstylebook.com which ended up not having page numbers for some assignments. In the end, the constant use of AP style helped make it come more natural for some bigger projects further along in the semester.…

This English 101 class has helped me in variety of ways in gaining and shaping skills in writing. I learned how do compose several types of essays including: professional, informal, casual, cause and effect, and argumentative and was given the format for writing these. Every week, the class was given one of these types of essay to write and throughout the class periods, I would start and finish them. I saw that if I outline these essays with key points of my topic before I officially being writing the first draft, an essay is not difficult to come up with. I would only have to include transitions, which I also learned, and maybe a few more sentences to make my ideas connect properly and flow smoothly.…
