I chose to observe children ages seven to ages fourteen in my study, in my opinion these ages are where students peak the most. I feel this is an age group where they are still eager to learn and willing to try new things. …show more content…
I saw students picking on other students because of what they might have worn to school that day, or if they wore glasses. “Cliques in schools do provide a sense of belonging and security for their members, but the “rules” for belonging can be stifling—especially among the so-called popular groups.” (Alexandra Robbins The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth pg 98). This particular group of students were not really interested by me being there, some might not have even noticed …show more content…
They were a group of seventh and eighth graders (it was a combined class). Upon my arrival I was informed this class was a handful, so I was not really sure what to expect when I walked in. I noticed there were a couple students who were trouble, a few “book worms”, and the others seemed neutral, and like they played sports. It is a small school so a lot of the students do play sports which does seem to put them apart from the others since they are on a team together. With that said I did notice what girls seemed to be the “mean girls”, and even pick out what girls they picked on. I wondered if this had to do with puberty, I decided would see what our book said about it. In the glossary the book described puberty as developmental changes, and signaling adulthood. A person would think that would be the time to begin to mature, but that’s false. The upper end of this age group actually were the most immature of the ages I watched. They appeared very into themselves, almost self-centered. But I also noticed how much the students seem to sneak peaks at their phones, This had me to thinking about all the cyberbullying that is probably taking place.. Our book says cyberbullying is the cause in at, “least half of the suicides in children and teens. Pg 438” Did you know that cyberbullying keeps 30% of students from going to school every day, I had no idea the statics were so
