When I entered the observation lab, the students were playing in the centers. I observed that the teacher cleaned the tables, chairs, and sent the children to wash their hands pretty often. I also took note of the child sized toilets, sinks, tables, and chairs. The children had easy access to these necessities and their basic physical …show more content…
Teachers should encourage the communication, and I saw plenty of this occur in the classroom. As the children were drawing picture in the centers, one child complemented another child’s drawing. The child said “thank you” and the teacher responded by: “how do you say thank you in Spanish?” The other children immediately responded and talked about other Spanish words they were familiar with. I also noticed another situation in where two girls are playing hair dresser. One girl approaches the teacher and asks what they are playing, and the teacher responded, “Would you like to let Kiara know what you guys are playing?” The other girls responded and included her in their play right away. One last strategy I observed was when two girls were drawing a rainbow. One boy did not know how to draw it and the teacher responded by asking another child if she can show him how a rainbow was drawn and she showed him by showing the appropriate colors in order. Communication is important for a variety of reasons and some reasons the teachers used these strategies that I noted were due to multicultural reasons, inclusion in activities, and helping one …show more content…
Learning centers are ideal for children to explore by playing at the appropriate level for them. For instance, the children get to choose their own center that they wish to play in and use the materials in the center that is developmentally appropriate for them. I took note of a child using an abacus at the math center with the teacher’s guidance. I also observed two young boys cooperatively building bridges at the block center. In the art center there were various materials for children to use from. There was scissors, various colored paper, paint brushes, crayons, markers, and much more. I also paid attention as the teachers acknowledged the children’s accomplishments. A child who drew an apple tree showed it to her teacher and the teacher complimented how nice her tree looked. “Your apples loo very yummy” she replied. I also noticed as the teacher acknowledged one child’s good behavior and sent him to the centers first as a result. In return, the rest of the class behaved as well. Throughout the day I observed that children are encouraged to interact with one another and assist each other as well. In the art center, on girl started crying because she couldn’t cut out a heart that her classmate was doing. As a result, her classmate offered to teach her as the teachers calmed her down. There were opportunities as the teachers also encouraged the children to communicate with
