My clinical placement of ELM2 was at the Brain Injury Association, I spent a large amount of my time there interviewing people with brain injuries, all whom where very different both in the cause and the consequences of their brain injury. Very few significant events occurred during my time but there was one where I found myself quite shocked at my response to the situation. However, my clinical skills tutor informed me in the feedback session that it was not very often and that I did not appear nervous in the video. I found this reassuring because although I was nervous I did not let it show to the patient which is a very important skill to have. I was also pleased that despite my nervousness the only question I forgot was about the occupation of the patient. It was relieving that even while nervous I knew what to do, and could focus myself on the task, sufficiently so that I was still able to ask the relevant questions and was still empathetic and listening to the patient. Another thing I found was the difference between my first interview that was recorded and my formative OSCE. I was so much more confident and competent in the formative OSCE. I had learnt the correct questions to ask and I had also developed a far more flowing method of interviewing rather than the initial rigid method I used while less confident.
