We The People Project Reflection Paper

Superior Essays
The objective of the “We The People” project is to register the entire senior class of Pemberton High School as voters. My success in completing this objective has been somewhat limited, though. This paper will be constructed in seven paragraphs. These include an introduction, conclusion, and five body paragraphs that include: how the project was organized, the desired goals of the project, the relationship of this project to the citizenship and leadership training I have received in JROTC, the expectations of the project, and the actual outcomes of the product. The “We The People” project was organized by using a four phase lesson plan. The inquire phase’s objective was for cadets to demonstrate knowledge of the requirements of the project …show more content…
The project caused me to gain knowledge on one of the most important rights a citizen has, and should uphold. The right to vote. It also put me in a position where I had to use my leadership skills in order to get students (many of which I did not know) to fill out a registration forms. I had to use decision making skills in order to figure out which students to approach first, what class to approach them in, and how to go about convincing them to fill out the form. I used time management to attempt to reach my weekly deadlines on time. Winning colors played a big role in getting students to agree to register to vote, as I needed to ascertain what their primary color was in order to adapt my argument in a way that would make it more likely to succeed. I also needed to use interpersonal relationship skills in order to relate to the specific person I was registering, so I could actually convince them. This project has showed me that not everyone actually wants to be a participating citizen and exercise their rights. I also learned that it is a lot easier to be one than I originally thought, and I plan to vote and exercise my rights in other ways in the

One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through.…

In January 2016, 637,067 homeless citizens were accounted for in the US. Out of those 637,067, 4,000 were accounted for in Virginia. Homelessness in Virginia has gone up 4.2% in the last three years. Aren’t those facts just a bit unsettling? When I heard we had to a Capstone Project, I knew homelessness in VA had to be incorporated into my project.…

The idea behind my project is to show how the aphorisms were always running through Morrie's mind. I drew a silhouette of Morrie and filled it with aphorisms that stood out to me. I did this to show that Morrie, himself, came up with these aphorisms, and not someone else. Morrie used the aphorisms to teach and get a point across in a way that is easy to understand. My project is another tool to help get Morrie's many messages read.…

My big home project was accomplished at Chase High School instead of it being completed at my home. Mrs. Kraus provided me and a fellow student ( Ashlyn Cox) the opportunity to clean the concession stand in the gymnasium so it would be clean for the Prom. We cleansed the concession stand with Oxygen Orange which is an all purpose cleaner and can clean almost anything. Prior to heading to the location we gathered four wash rags and we each had our own bottle of Oxygen Orange. When we arrived to the concession stand it was an absolute mess.…

In America, citizens are given the right to vote and elect officials into office. At the age of eighteen, young adults are allowed to register to vote and take part in elections. Not all citizens participate and decide to vote. When Americans decide to exclude themselves from voting, they initially are negatively impacting society. Thomas Patterson takes his stance on this when he wrote “The Vanishing Voter”.…

Introduction I voted for the first time in 2014, only a month after I had turned 18. I felt proud to be participating in our democracy and to be fulfilling my individual responsibility as a member of this country. However, I believe I only did so because I did not struggle with the hurdles that many others in Kansas face. The reason I am writing to you today is to address the impact these hurdles have on voter turnout and to propose a solution to this problem. As the Kansas Secretary of State, you are tasked with deciding the requirements that citizens must meet in order to vote in these elections.…

Stereotypes are everywhere in the world. Our ridged expectations of a community are sometimes all we know about that certain group. The students had a preconceived idea about the Harvard students being snobby and the Law students thought the students would not take the task seriously. This chapter really hit on many stereotypes throughout the chapter and how powerful it can be when stereotypes are broken. I would never think to take my class on a field trip to a courthouse to participate in a mock trial.…

My most impressive project without a doubt would have to be my eagle scout project. When I was 17, I tasked myself with repainting the interior of an apartment used by a ministry for an afterschool program they had. I was able to effectively manage the younger scouts and delegate responsibility to finish the project in a timely manner. We had to move everything off the walls, lay drop cloths, and tape off the door frames. I was required to keep track of the expenses involved, in addition to the tools, equipment, hours, and any donations.…

Gentrification, Groupthink, and the Right to Housing Introduction What does the right to housing mean? Many perceive the right to housing as a right to refuge from the world, shelter from the elements, a place where a person wants to be, or a place worth fighting for. One can say that the right to housing means less to the majority of housed people, who take this right for granted, than those whose very existence may hinge on this right. The United Nations states that everyone shall have “a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, [and] housing…”…

As the senior project comes to an end, I am truly excited about the benefit my influence has had on the community. My senior project was just another step to the legacy that I have implemented in Warren County. Thinking back to freshman year, senior project seemed so boring and far away. I never would have imagined the progress and success I've had with my senior project. My interest has stayed the same but I wouldn't think that I would have County Commissioners and a House of Representative present at my event.…

I learned so many things that will benefit me thanks to this project. One thing was that this plan is working and going well, so I need to keep using it and there is a lot more work to do. Mainly, the greatest thing I learned was that there is another level to this issue that I must work on. It became clear to me that once I would express what I was feeling, I would not like to explain why I felt that way. Explaining myself would be very helpful in further being truthful and open.…
