Introduction The concert that I attended, “Hot Jazz for a Cold Evening”, took place on Thursday, December 10. As I walked up to the front doors of the Freed Center a kind gentleman greeted me with a warm smile and welcomed me to the event by opening the door for me. Right away I could tell that this was a professional event and very well run. The event was formal and everyone was dressed in nice clothing. When walking into the theatre I was greeted by another kind gentleman who handed me the program for the event. The lights were dimmed giving off a very relaxing feel that seemed fitting for the theme of the concert. As the event started the lights were shut off and the audience was asked to turn off their cell phones and be quiet and …show more content…
Part of the reason I love jazz so much is because of how diverse it is. You can enjoy upbeat jazz that is fun to listen too, at the same time you can also enjoy more slow paced relaxed jazz. The first song was upbeat and I enjoyed that. The second song was more laid back and relaxed.
As I have said in my last analysis paper, I do not have much of a musical background. I am however a jazz fan and love to listen to that type of music. I was so excited for the concert because I do not get to listen to or attend jazz concerts very often so this was a great opportunity.
I feel that I get my love for jazz from my mother. She absolutely loves jazz and listens to it on the car radio all the time. This concert reminded me of when I used to ride in my mom’s car and just listen to relaxing jazz music.
I do enjoy listening to jazz music and I would love to be able to attend more jazz concerts on campus. I do not enjoy listening to jazz on the radio as much as I do listening to it live at a concert or event. I love the variations of jazz and how the tempo can be adagio and more relaxed, or allegro and upbeat. I prefer jazz with a conjunct melody

Jazz History Concert Report II For my final concert writing critique, I decided to attend the live Ball State Student Jazz Combos on Tuesday, November 8; this event took place in Choral Hall inside of the university’s Music Instruction Building. The wooden hall was smaller than I thought it would have been, but it gave the concert setting a more intimate feel. There were three groups presenting that day, each under a different director. Because each group did not have a specific name, I had to label them based on the order in which they performed.…

Finally, I can say that experiencing this type of Jazz concert, where it is more of a casual, lounge atmosphere was very interesting due to the fact that the first Jazz concert I attended was in a more professional setting. It was a lot more obvious to me how Jazz does live in the moment, since the band actually did a whole improvised piece and was randomly deciding what they were going to play next. The connection between the band members was also very evident, they had a lot of eye contact and head signals. Last but not least, I am excited about the fact that this jazz session incorporated certain elements of Jazz that we have recently covered in class. For example, the train influence on music pieces.…

The concert was presented by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Music’s UNC Jazz Band on Saturday, October 10th, 2015. The concert venue was located at UNC Kenan Music Building’s Rehearsal Hall. It started from 8pm to 9.40 pm. Compared to all the other concerts that I have gone to, the UNC Jazz Band concert was a definite change in atmosphere as it was a large band consisted of students. The stage was set up really well and has a nice lighting.…

For a crucial moment in the quarter, my life has been hectic and I have not found time to fully relax my mind and my body. But this event, specifically the jazz pieces, has allowed me to do so. I found myself able to forget about school and work for a brief moment, and allow the jazz music to take the stress away. Ironically, I rarely listen to jazz music for fun because I find the music to be chaotic. My friend loves jazz concerts and he is always inviting me out to events similar to this one, but I typically decline.…

And All That Jazz Elie Kern 11/20/15 11AP3 Mrs. Wang-Birnbaum Jazz has had a powerful impact on both general American culture and the African-American community. From its modest beginnings, this type of music is now one of the most well-known genres in the world, and this process has impacted American music tremendously. For the African American community, the development of jazz has advanced the goal of racial equality. The history of how jazz became as important as it has is long, complicated, and, at times, controversial. Despite many questions about the origins of jazz, most historians agree that its roots can be traced from Africa, though some passionately disagree.…

The second Musician I want to talk about would be Michael Lington during the live Jazz Concert. Michael Lington is the Sax player. He is a Danish- American contemporary Saxophonist , producer, songwriter, recording artist and a purveyor of soul and contemporary Jazz. I personally love the way how the concert went, even though I’m not in the actual performance, but I still felt how excited the audiences was during the concert. During the Concert the music was played very soft and it did not have anything like the big band or African influence kind of characteristics.…

As the concert proceeded I realized that the music was enjoyable and easy to follow for the most part. I don’t classify myself as a very knowledgeable person about jazz, but with this experience, I can at least say that I have been to a concert and know what to expect if I ever go to one again. To anyone who really enjoys this music, I would definitely recommend going! I’m sure that every jazz concert is different, so there could be benefits such as the band or conductor being more interactive with the audience or the audience itself could create a different feeling for people attending the concert. I did enjoy the concert, especially being able to see and learn about such a great artist like Stuart Mack.…
