Upon viewing Isabel Allende: Reflections, I feel as though I have an inner eye into the lives of civilians, in terms of dealing with the military coup. Before viewing this video I was unfamiliar with the term Military coup and had to do some research. From what I gathered, a Military coup can be best defined as: a sudden overthrow of a government which is usually carried out by a small group of participants or individuals who were previously in positions of authority.by a usually small group of persons in or previously in positions of authority. To return to the topic on hand, according to Isabel Allende, the Pinchet coup crushed Chile’s dreams of democracy when, on September 11th. 1973, the Pinochet Coup, led by none other than Augusto Pinochet, the head of the Chilean army. As the film states, “It ended a long democratic tradition. Thousand went out of the country. Many were arrested and killed and tortured, and then we had almost Seventeen years of dictatorship which changed the country.” (Isabelle Allende, 2009).
