As one of the English instructors at Lenape Tech in Ford City, PA I have had the honor of knowing Hannah Morda. Hannah was a student in my Honors English class in the 2015—2016 school year. Additionally, I served as one of Hannah’s advisors for the national organization, SkillsUSA, and Lenape’s student government. As a member of SkillsUSA, Hannah represented our school as a Western Region officer in her junior year. Through this program, she was part of a small group of students who ran the three-day conference which showcased her abilities as a leader. The most recent Presidential election has consumed the national consciousness. With each passing debate, speech, headline, and commercial, we have been flooded with negative messages that are highlighting all that is wrong with our current and perspective political leaders. We seem to have leaders who are devoid of the character necessary to handle the great challenges that face our nation and our world. It would be easy to sit in a state of despair about the future of our country. I, however, find solitude in knowing that we are raising a new generation of young adults in our schools, such as Nathan Lefeld, who can strive of excellence academically, persevere through adversity, find joy in service to others, and work extremely hard to earn…

Governor’s School was a place filled with immensely talented and hardworking people, all of whom were extremely gifted intellectually. Every person I met there had an inspiration and a backstory that led them to the success of attending the program. The people at Governor’s School were united by their passion for their respective areas of study, but were otherwise a very diverse group of students. During those five-and-a-half weeks, I was able to connect with people that would not have been accepted in my small town. I felt comfortable sharing parts of me that I couldn’t have in the hallways, classroom, or cafeteria of my high school.…

I consider it a great honor to write a recommendation for Morgan Engler, since I am sure she has many teachers and others that can testify to her leadership qualities and strong work ethic not to mention her bubbly personality that generates through her beautiful smile. Education is very important to Morgan. She has maintained a well above grade point average throughout her high school years. As important as her stellar grade point average and class rank, she has accomplished this while being extremely involved in school activities that demand a considerable amount of time. This desire to achieve academically was evident even when I had Morgan in my English I class, a freshmen English class.…

If you had asked any of my peers for a description of who I am, they would have said that I was someone who was shy, and possibly even a bit awkward. This was a personality trait that I had been struggling with throughout the majority of my life. I had grown up as an only child, incessantly feeling out of place among my peers. It wasn’t until the middle of my freshman year of high school that I gained the self-confidence I had only dreamed about.…

Oratory, through my technique, presents itself in the form of a grandiose sentiment to the subject at hand, where my methods of presentation aggrandize even the most mundane topics. Uncharacteristically developed from my nervousness and stern demeanor, oratory was not a skill I knew possible within myself until I was forced to stand before a crowd. In some convergence of anxiety and want for respect amongst my peers, I unconsciously spoke with such a stentorian voice that my audience was left startled. Hitherto, I knew not of my capability and the pure euphoria that came with presenting; however, with this newfound skill, I knew I needed to capitalize because it was a mode of communication in which I could share my ideas and passions while…

This year has been my first year participating in Global Girls and I can, without hesitation, say that several of the conversations held during the meetings have been some of the most honest, crisp discussions I have taken a part in. My personal belief in the great significance of these kinds of conversations is one of the driving factors for my interest in being co head of Global Girls. If selected as co-head, I will really focus on creating more of these organic conversations that speak about the core of an issue. The importance of brisk, articulate conversations was really emphasized to me during my participation in the Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) in December of last year. I was chosen, along with four other Brearey girls, to go to this conference in Atlanta, Georgia and I had the privilege of engaging in conversations with teenagers from around the country about different social…
