Adler writes that he wants us to read between the lines and look closely at the text we are reading. I used to underline and mark in my book a lot in highschool. I had a lot of success in my English classes when I marked up my books. It is important to think and write like Scudder, because he pays close attention to the details, looks at things from different angles, and just double checking his work. Starting in my freshman year of highschool I used Adler’s and Scudder’s technique without even knowing what I was doing. All I knew it was helping me understand the material and it helped me in the long run because I passed the class. Now I understand what I need to do to write and think about a topic. I fully understand that I need to reread text to comprehend that text and underline good points in the book. Also, I should circle words I do not know to look them up later to get a greater understanding of the material. Now that I have experienced a college prep high school I think writing is easy and hard at the same time ,because I can write and explain myself a lot more. When I was young writing was difficult to me because I went through a bad education system until I got to high school My high school experience really shaped the way I write because my teachers really help me succeed in a lot of ways. I had a teacher in the learning center who would always help me and just stay on my back about the little things in my …show more content…

I plan to go to the writing center and get help with my grammar ,because I still need to work on it. As a thinker I plan to again learn and listen to the professor, and then apply it to my work. What I want to accomplish in this semester is just to become the best writer I can be and alway do my best. I would like to earn an A in this class and continue to work on my writing skills. I would also like to gain something I can use in life in this class. I want to accomplish all this for my family. They helped me through everything. I owe all of this to them, so I am going to do this for them. Also I want to use Scudder and adler 's techniques to get better at all my skills. I need to use adler 's reading in between the lines because I still miss a lot of the smaller meaning or themes in the books I read. I also need to active read more, just to help me understand the words and understand the reading alittle

Next, while writing through out this course I’ve learned I have made improvements as well as identified some weaknesses. Through high school, and continuing in college I have been able to follow certain formats to fit a writing proposal helping me create a well-structured paper. On the downside I’ve noticed that my outlining skills have held me back. Without creating a nice outline it is hard to write any paper. By reflecting on my work this semester it has helped me identify what I can work on to help me become a better writer.…

This helped me know where I needed to make changes and parts I did well on. Also, other feedback that was helpful was the writing center. I took all of the essays I have done in this class there. But, one in specific that I took there was the Surprising-Reversal Essay. The tutor and I discussed how I can make a better claim in my essay, and ways that I can better my thesis.…

I believe that having skills such as these now will help me later in life and help me continue to become a successful student because with every new assignment and novel, I feel I learn more about myself as a student and a writer, and I tend to discover new skills that help me in all my classes, especially my Mitchell classes. For example, finding ways to remember vocabulary also helped me study for Psychology final by helping me remember terms and statements. By using skills I learned in English, it also helped me write my Psychology paper about something I wanted to change about myself. Whether it is editing the paper myself, having a classmate look through it, or using an online editing tool, all of it combines to help me improve writing skills and expand my vocabulary as a…

Professor Hamlet taught me a lot about my writing style by commenting and marking my rough draft and/or my final draft, so that I could have a few pointers and tips for the proper formatting, style, and organization of my paper. For example, on my personal narrative at the beginning of the year, Hamlet made a good point that I often tend to repeat myself. Thereafter, I learned and begun trying to avoid unnecessary repetition which has helped improve my grade on the essays. In addition, she noted that I needed to learn to speak more clearly and clarify important thoughts and ideas better. That tip helped me, as well, because I learned to identify, clarify, and note the most important details of my papers.…
