Reflective Essay: My High School Education And Experience

I was weighed down by the transition into high school, I was stressed and feeling out of place. I picked up lacrosse during my freshman year, a sport that I would never have thought would play a role in helping me through high school and later in life. Despite the small amount of teams in America’s high schools, it is the fastest growing sport in the country, and despite being unpopular, it is carried by strong hearts, literally and figuratively. Lacrosse is an old fragment of the Native American culture, it had been a quiet or unknown sport for a long time until the early 1900’s. It is a small, yet growing sport and so I took the opportunity to play . I did not know what I was capable of, who I was, or how I was going to end up in high school -- I was lost. I have now started realizing how playing lacrosse has helped me answer those questions. I started to see how lacrosse positively affected the way I treated my high school education and experience. I realized that lacrosse has helped me gain better self confidence, better community involvement, and a better academic discipline.

I participated in Kids’ Food Basket, yearbook committee, National Honors Society. I worked with high school students from around the region to help hungry children, used my technical skills to make the yearbook designs, and volunteered at the Writing Center at my school. I got to learn to communicate with and be a part of a team, which further helped my ability to work and speak with other classmates. It is how I started becoming better at making new friends.
