One of the main community service events is working the concession stands at the Rutgers University football games. Through the games I learn very valuable lessons that will help me through life. One of the main lessons is people skills. During the games all type of people come to the concession stand. You have to deal with those people and handle their…
Volunteering at the High School The high school was involved through scrap metal drives, the sale of war bonds, and volunteering for the Red Cross. Students of Collierville High School bought and sold war bonds to friends and family totaling around $1149.40 by September 16, 1943. Businesses One business that promoted war bonds in Collierville was the Southern Railway System which forced its employees on the payroll allotment plan to purchase war bonds in order to maintain their jobs.…
For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…
My goal after completing the BSN program at UST Carol and Odis Peavy School of Nursing is to work in the Medical Center. I want to help make a difference in as many individual lives that I can. I started volunteered at Texas Children’s before getting accepted into the nursing program. Volunteering was an unbelievable experience to be able to work and learn from the nurses. I tried to make a difference in each patient’s life that I encounter.…
This year I volunteered at Atlanta food bank. The Atlanta food bank is an organization that provides food and other critical resources for low-income Georgians who suffer from hunger and food insecurity. The mission of the Atlanta community food bank is to fight hunger by engaging, education and empowering the community. Their mission is lived out every day through seven projects that help engage, educate and empower both people in need and those who want help. I have fulfill the agency’s mission by volunteering at the food bank and being an active participant in organizing and sorting food.…
When volunteering at West Minnehaha it made me realize things that I didn’t pay attention to before going in. The point was to build relationships, problem solve, what to do in a conflict situation, and step outside of my comfort zone. I learned how to do every single one of those things. I realized that the kids are in need of someone who they can look up to and a dependable person who they can count on. For example, I was looking after a few kids that were doing homework and when walking around I hear a conversation of two kids.…
For our civic engagement project for the Redefining Leadership class, my group, Stephanie, Hailee, Christina, and I, decided to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven, Connecticut on a Thursday. Before we got there, we did not know what to expect, but afterwards, we truly felt grateful that we helped out a great cause. The Ronald McDonald House is a charity house that keeps families close to their family members that are being treated at a nearby hospital. We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…
I'm not certain what age you would accept or want to volunteer but I'm 14 years old and would love to volunteer. I chose Adopt-a-shelf, because I love to clean and have my own little area to take care of. I also chose Books For Babies, because I have a nephew and niece and I love to read to them the baby books and the books are always the cutest! I love to volunteer and help the community out.…
I was able to volunteer at a local bank that was sponsoring the Lake Park Elementary School for the holiday season. The school has over 300 underprivileged students between the ages of kindergarten and fifth grade. Most of the students at that school only have one meal per day. Along with other volunteers, I packaged bags that contained candy, toys, toiletries, a blanket, and a pair of athletic shoes. The bags were able to provide the children with goods that we often take for granted.…
During senior year of high school, I decided to volunteer at Robert Wood Johnsons Children’s Specialized Hospital for a couple of months. At Children’s Specialized Hospital, I cleaned up toys, organized any equipment that assisted the children and I…

I've always felt like I have more to offer to the world. In what way, I'm not exactly sure, but only that I am brimming with potential, just waiting to let it out. That is why I began volunteering at Grace Hospice. I never gave much thought to those who work so hard to make the lives of those of the brink of death as comfortable as can be. Until one day I realized that I have so much more to offer to the world.…
Over the course of the semester I have been volunteering with American Public Square. I have completed around eleven hours so far and have been helping at events hosted by the group. At events I have helped attendants find seats, passed out programs, collected questions from the audience, tracked demographics, and cleaned up once attendees have left. While my acts have seemed small to me, those putting on the programs have said these little things amount to a large burden off their shoulders. From American Public Squares website it is an "organization that is changing the tone and quality of public discourse by bringing non like-minded people together to create a forum for fact-based, civil conversation about national, regional and local issues."…
Volunteering One day, I walked to my friends house. Her mom had just had a baby boy. Just by looking at her, I could tell she was exhausted. So I offered to babysit the baby, so she wouldn’t have to worry about when her baby's diaper needed to be changed, or when he needed to be fed. She said I didn’t have to, but she knew I had a baby brother.…
Roberto Clemente once said, "If you have the chance to accomplish something that will make things better for people coming behind you, and you don't do that, you are wasting your time on this Earth." Mr. Clemente points out that helping others is the necessity of life; it fulfills the needs of others. Not only does volunteering make you feel physically and mentally happier, however, it creates a pool of volunteering groups. By volunteering, you can make you world a more humble place. One thing that I could do to make the world a more humble place, would be to volunteer at a soup kitchen to feed the homeless.…
